I keep listening to Lumière over and over, it’s such a good song as is the rest of the soundtrack! I was just telling my brother the last night that I like that it’s a French game, its exposed me to a culture I don’t usually get to appreciate.
The French inspiration throughout the game is a nice change from the usual English/Japanese inspired RPGs IMO, I especially like how Esquie refers to Francois as franfran with a French accent! (Although everything about Esquie is awesome tbh).
The French swear words are a nice touch as well, although I have to ask, is tabarnak not a thing in France? If not, what’s the equivalent in France? I only know that word because I’m a Habs fan and a lot of them frequently use that word in reddit game day threads when they’re playing like shit haha.
I’ve heard Quebecois French and France French (wording? sorry) is a fair bit different, but I don’t speak the language so I only have an outsiders level of knowledge at best.
Ha that makes them a bit more palatable but they’re still really annoying just like a lot of those old FF minigames were. Thank god for save states!
Thanks for the tips!
Been slowly going through the game over the last 3 weeks or so and my fucking god, this game is an absolute masterpiece.
I’m a huge fan of turn based RPGs so I’m biased, but everything about this game is just amazing. Music is insanely good (almost at Nier levels of good IMO) the combat is satisfying and challenging at the same time, the voice acting is extremely well done (Andy Serkis does one of the villains) and the graphics and cut scenes are gorgeous, I read that they used mo-cap and had the actors actually playing their scenes together so it feels much more natural as opposed to one person doing their part and then piecing it all together afterwards.
The story is really well done so far, I’m pretty sure I’m somewhere near the end of act 2 (level 40ish across my team) and the writing for the characters is top tier. Funny banter with your team and NPCs at times but lots of emotional moments, it’s been a long time since something tugged on my heartstrings the way this game has been able to so far.
Everytime I play it, I have multiple moments of happiness, some sad moments and some laughs in a couple hour gaming session. I seriously can’t recommend this game enough. Reading my post back makes me sound like a paid bot but I haven’t been this excited about a new game since I found Factorio back in 2020. Before that would’ve been Fallout New Vegas back in 2010.
Masterpiece of a game and I both can’t fucking wait to beat it and see how the story ends, while also dreading that moment at the same time. It’s (hopefully) gonna be like finishing a really good TV or book series and realizing there’s no more story in that universe. Bittersweet knowing you won’t get more of the characters and world you came to love over time. (Just finished Peter F Hamilton’s Commonwealth books, 7 in total and I’m super sad there aren’t any more stories to be told in that fascinating universe. I’m hoping to feel the same way after I beat this game)
Edit: Just to add some of my personal gripes so I’m not solely jerking the game off, some of the optional mini-bosses are annoying af, came across one that has a gimmick of needing to be parried constantly to kill it, and one of its attacks is an 8 hit combo. If you miss even one parry, then you don’t get the counter attack at the end, which means you forfeit all damage for that turn.
Alternatively, you can cheese it by building your characters for speed or using a pictos (permanent buff that slightly alters how each character plays slightly essentially) that guarantees the equipped character gets a turn before the enemy does. If you just try to dodge, then the enemy always gets an extra turn, leaving you no opportunity to deal damage. Basically, you either find a way to guarantee your 3 teammates get to attack first and finish it off, or weaken it enough that you only need a couple of good parries, or you parry it to death from full health. You lose otherwise. The parry timing in this game is quite unforgiving (but satisfying af, ngl). I ended up skipping that mini-boss after 5 tries cause I felt myself getting mad and that just makes me play worse.
Some of the optional platforming sections and minigames for getting extra skins are also insanely frustrating and take a lot of repetition to figure out. You also can’t manually restart a fight, which is really annoying when you’re trying to grind out a boss/miniboss cause sometimes you just lose if you don’t dodge/parry certain attacks from certain strong enemies. Forces you to just sit and wait until your whole team dies rather than being able to restart right away.
I live near the northern border, and recently a client at work wanted us to cross the border to pick up samples weekly, my job is shipping/receiving so I got asked and said not a chance I’m crossing the border once, let alone regularly. Just need one asshole having a bad day and what could I even do about it.
Luckily I have good bosses and none of them want to do it either and don’t blame me for not wanting to do it. Now the client will pay more to ship directly to us through a 3rd party.
God damn, that sounds awesome! Those map editors were seriously impressive for their time, so many cool things you could do with them. I also liked making “campaign” maps but with hero units and harder AI (SC base ai was too easy but you could set it to be harder through the map editor) or those “maze” maps where you have to keep the units you start out with alive through a bunch of different encounters.
Ahh good times!
I made a tower defense map in the Starcraft map editor when I was a kid , but it was based off of anti air rather than anti ground like the other TD maps at the time. I got it working pretty damn well (at least IMO) but I didn’t have internet at the time and that was on my dads work laptop so it sadly got lost.
I don’t think I could recreate that now if I tried, crazy what you can do as a bored kid with too much time.
I haven’t seen Halo Wars mentioned yet so I’ll nominate those games. Both 1 and 2 are insanely fun and they control surprisingly well on Xbox if you dont have access to a PC. I’ve put a couple hundred hours into both games on both Xbox and PC, but I do prefer M&KB controls even if it works very well with a controller.
Cutscenes are fucking awesome in both games as well!
Another game I’d like to bring up is Stellaris. If you’re a sci-fi fan and like 4X strategy games then I can’t recommend this game enough. I’ve put 630 hours into the game since I got it back in 2019, being able to role play a custom or sci-fi inspired empire is great. If the amount of DLC puts you off, then look up cream.api. Getting them for “free” is easy.
I’ve been running Bazzite as my main OS now for about 8 months and I love it. Recently installed CachyOS on a separate SSD and am also loving that as well.
Linux is pretty great these days. Last time I tried it in 2014 I didn’t even bother to try gaming on it, now proton makes that a set and forget setup.
Because there are people like me that can’t stand tank controls. Scream at me till you’re blue in the face about how I’ll “get used to it” or I just need to “git gud” etc and nothing will change my mind. Fuck tank controls.
I’d kill to play this game in the same style as the modern RE remakes, the OG will always be there for you to play if you don’t like the remake.
Fallout 4 kind of in a weird place where it’s simultaneously a bad Fallout game and arguably the best Bethesda game.
Thank you
That’s how I’ve described fallout 4 since it first came out. Nice to see someone else had the same thought. It’s a great game and I’ve put a ton of time into it and I play through it every 2 years at most.
But it’s really not a great fallout game. The game overall is excellent but it feels the least fallout-y, to me at least.
I have a steam library of over 100 games and I’ve been exclusively gaming on PC since 2014. I can count the amount of times I’ve had trouble playing a game on one hand since then. If you’re refunding half the games you get then your PC is fucked and you’re doing something wrong.
I’ve also never had to troubleshoot anything but modded games which is to be expected. PC gaming is easier than ever these days.
That said I fully get why so many people prefer consoles but don’t spread bullshit cause you suck at using a PC buddy.
Ffs only on lemmy can you get shit on for telling ccp supporters to fuck off, china and russia are just barely worse than the states(also fuck america) for most corrupt shithole countries.
Fuck china and and fuck you, you tankie piece of garbage. Go back to weibo or hexbear where you belong you piece of shit.
Yeah anything with a GTX prefix like your 1660S doesn’t support DLSS, only the RTX 2000 and up works. I agree completely, I’ve never used upscaling before as I’d much rather have a clearer picture at native resolution, but if I wanna stay above 30FPS minimums then I need to use FSR with my RX 6700XT running at 1440p. Didn’t think I’d play any games that made my GPU feel that bad for at least another year or two.
Final fantasy 13. Rented it as a kid for the 360 for a week and loved it. Didn’t get to finish it, but as soon as it released for PC shortly after I built my first PC I played it and loved it. I now have over 300 hours in the game on steam and have beaten it 4 times. One of my favourite FF games despite how much the fanbase shits on the game.
I also don’t care for the 2nd game in the trilogy despite that being the fanbase’s “preferred” game of the trilogy. Did not like the “monster as a 3rd party member” thing at all. Lightning returns is also amazing and I’ve put a couple hundred hours into that game and beaten it 3 times as well.
Love the FF 13 games even if they get shit on a lot by FF fans. 13 will always be one of my favourite games.
