I just happened to check a couple days ago and apparently I have about 135 in rocket League, but that’s pretty much it for real games, everything else I’ve played looks sub 50 hours. I think the longest I’ve stuck with a single-player game is 30 hours in mad max. I did play a ton of pubg mobile when I was younger, PC/console-less, and had more free time.

It’s not really the total hours that bothers me though, it’s the commitment, the games that demand x amount of hours from me before I get a conclusion to the story. I hop into rl whenever I feel and think “one more round…one more round…k I’ve had enough for today”. There’s no real demand on my time.

Now I’m sure there’s tons of holes in that logic, but this isn’t really a logical thing, I’m just trying to explain how I feel

I’m glad I’m not the only one like this. I don’t play single player games often because it seems like they’re all 60+ hours long. That’s such an investment in my mind. It’s especially frustrating for me getting stuck on a level or boss in a single player game, because when I get stuck, that’s it. I can’t progress, and now I’m stressing about the video game I just bought and can’t complete.

On the other hand, with multiplayer I can do a quick match whenever if I have a spare half-hour. And I like that you compared multiplayer games to sports, because that’s how I see it too. I’m just there to improve my skills and test them against real people in an even match. So what if I lose? That’s part of the game, I’ll get them next time. Or not, I’m honestly ass at video games in general, but I like a little healthy competition, and I like reading opponents and trying to get into their OODA loop. I don’t even play with mic chat on except with friends, so I don’t hear trash talking, it’s just that NPC’s in singleplayer games don’t do it for me. They feel like puppets. I get bored of that so fast. I’d rather watch a movie or read a book if I’m going to entertain myself alone without Internet.

I don’t mean for this to come across as bashing single player games, tons of them look like a lot of fun. Truthfully, I’m jealous of the people who enjoy them because it seems like I’m just not wired to.

And pubg isn’t exactly the latest thing anymore either. It came out in 2017.

The steam deck honestly is my favorite controller. If valve releases a controller that’s the steam deck without a screen I’ll be first in line and I’ll take two please.

Nah, I just type gg at the end. They’re just games, like disc golf, volleyball, or airsoft. I lose sometimes, actually I lose a fuck-ton, but that’s just statistics if the matchmaking isn’t actually the worst. It’s those wild unscripted moments. Coordinating with your buddies. Learning your opponents. Learning yourself.

I get the appeal of single player games, but I’ll just share my opinion: to me the most stressful gaming moments are hard bosses in single-player campaigns. If I get my ass handed to me in a multiplayer match, nbd “gg This is Rocket League”. I’ll get them next time. In the single player you’re stuck though. I’ve gotten migraines because I couldn’t beat a boss and I was stressing over the wasted money I spent on the game that I might not ever finish. Beating a boss after <5 tries is satisfying. Beating it after 20+ feels like getting out of the hospital.

You basically got to have your own little reliable niche

I think one big problem is originally. So many indie games are essentially clones of the games that the developers happened to like. Zelda-likes, rogue-likes, greyscale puzzle platformers about depression. There are literally hundreds of examples of the first two of these, and not as many but still weirdly a lot of the third. But without something to make it stand out, casual players will come across the game and think “This looks neat, but basically the same as about 4 other games in my wishlist that are already very well reviewed. Maybe if it starts getting rave reviews, I’ll add it to the queue”.

Not to paint all indie games with one broad stroke, the most novel game ideas out there are also usually from indie studios. I don’t have numbers and I don’t know about longevity, but I bet that games with novel ideas get more initial downloads

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Gaming PC’s are expensive and a luxury! It makes sense economically. With consoles there’s an incentive to sell hardware cheap to get people into the ecosystem. With the exception of the steamdeck, there’s no such incentive for PC’s: if the hardware is worth x amount, you can bet your ass you’ll have to pay at least that. Yeah games are generally cheaper on PC, but not by much, and the barrier to entry is much lower for consoles. Hell, the PC I just built from used parts and Amazon deals cost me $800 (not including accessories), and while the processor and ram is almost certainly better than the ps5’s, the graphics are about on par, if anything slightly worse. You can find used ps5’s for less than $400. Is there really a used PC out there that can touch that?

Go into desktop mode, there’s a bedrock launcher in the package manager store thing, I forgot the names of both of those things, but search “Minecraft” and you should find it. Anyway, it basically loads the Android version of the game. It works pretty well. I play bedrock because everyone I play with is on Xbox

I bet adding a gyroscope would get it even closer to mouse accuracy, and he’d be able to get away with higher sensitivities for the trackball

I mean duh, I can make up any strawman I want and say “there’s a difference”.

No one said that you wanted to commit console genocide, just that your neighbors Xbox is none of your business and you really ought to take a chill pill and game how you please.

Then don’t buy a console? How does your neighbor Bob playing on his Xbox series s affect you at all?

Skinnier tires are actually better in snow because they can dig down to the ground somewhat and find traction there. Wide tires tend to float on top of the snow because of the larger contract patch (but not enough to stay above it, that requires huge, under-inflated-balloon-like tires like what you’d need on an antarctic expedition)

I mean, it’s a large American pickup truck. We all know that it’s only a matter of time before those rims are replaced with polished aluminum trashcans

Definitely important, but in my experience with good tires and patience you can basically plow the snow out of the way

I didn’t have a console or PC growing up, so the only games I played were flash games on school computers. When I got a smart phone I mostly switched to mobile games. So I like mobile games. Not all of them, there’s a lot of garbage out there. But there’s some good ones. It’s a great platform for indie games and I love it when a game actually takes advantage of the touchscreen as an input, rather than simply trying to emulate a controller. I especially love the multiplayer games. It was so awesome in highschool whenever we had a break, we’d just look at each and break out whatever the hottest game was locally and play a round.

I have a Steam deck now and I’m more busy, so don’t play mobile games as often as I used to, but there’s a few that still play pretty often: Pubg mobile, Bombsquad, True surf, Shredsauce. Pubg mobile in particular I don’t think gets enough credit for how well they pulled off mobile controls. Insanely customizable, and with gyro turned on, I would rather play an fps on a phone then with a gamepad anyday. Even with the steam deck, the extra weight makes quick, precise movements with the gyro more clumsy than on my phone.

Lol it’s literally an “objectively better experience” and if your experience was different then you’re literally objectively wrong.

Look sorry about the sass, I know know I’m being a pedantic ass right now. But experience is by definition subjective. If you specified that the image clarity was objectively better, well then you’d be totally right. But that’s not what you said.

No it’s not. Check out xda, there hasn’t been a custom ROM released for a OnePlus flagship since the 9 pro because they won’t release the msm tool for newer phones

Ooh, just checked out Weather Today. I like it, bought the full version
