Guess its unavoidable. Even Gearbox is doing it after getting acquired by 2K.
What a shit show this whole industry is. Guess Im glad I never manged to get in… this kind of shit was also happening in 08 when I was trying to enter the industry right out of school.
The layoffs continued until 2010 in some places, which is when my whole team got axed.
That was not a fun time.
Im very happy to be in Cybersecurity now.
That shit was ridiculous. What a terrible time to be a newbie out of college, for me. Couldn’t compete with recently laid off, highly experienced people who were willing to take jobs at lower pay because it beat not having a job.
It’s always been a shitshow. I remember when activision laid me off… I bought my first car with the severance and moved industries!
That was well over a decade ago!
It’s sad that it hasn’t improved since then and if anything has actually gotten worse.
This year is definitely worse.
I don’t expect it to get better until the fed lowers rates. Tech requires basically free money to make progress, and games requires free money and exploitation of young idealists.
