What are your guys’ favorite PSP games and why? We’ve all seen the Top 10 lists and those games are amazing, but are there any gems that specifically called out to you that didn’t get much coverage? How did they make you feel and did you have any fond memories of playing the PSP when you were younger?
I dug out my old soft modded PSP GO (not pictured) from a drawer at my parent’s house and immediately went on a definitely legal buying and installing spree and think I have a pretty good library of games, but wanted to kind of compare notes.

I got one when I was 18, I think it was around the time it was first hacked using Liberty City Stories.
I used it almost purely as a retro gaming device…I don’t think I owned a single psp game other than LCS!. The GBA emulator was stupidly good. I also used it to listen to web radio and watch TV (I remember I used to watch 24 on it at uni the day after it aired each week). The 4gb memory card cost me £150! Being able to play any PS1 game on it via cfw was also great.
It was a fantastic device, but in terms of actual games made for it, it didn’t have much of an impression on me. The Vita did though - that introduced me to Dangaronpa, brought me back into Ys, etc…so many classics.
I need to get into PSP’s library really, I have a steam deck which is perfect for it.
So many good ones.
Patapon Loco Roco Crush Metal Gear Acid Peace Walker Dissidia Monster Hunter
I also replayed my favorite PS1 games: FF7 FF Tactics Castlevania Symphony of the Night Oddworld
I’m still hoping for a loco roco remake on whatever platform (ideally PC tbh). Such a great game!
Sims 2, Twisted Metal: Head On, and Ape Escape Academy. I can still hear the music from those games and it always brings a smile to my face.
Loco Roco, the Dragon Ball games, GTA Vice City Stories, Burnout Dominator, Formula 1, and honestly all the cool demos I downloaded over the years.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of games on my PSP but for some reason I still have fond memories of the MediEvil remaster. It’s such a good game and is dripping with atmosphere. The scarecrow fields level used to scare me a lot lol
That’s such a good game. Having played the ps5 remake I find the psp version had more going on. The way it played for a handheld was great and the story had lots of humour and nice character moments from Dan.
I’m not a retro snob or anything but I also really find the PSP version also looks a lot nicer. The remake looks a little too colorful that it loses some of its “gritty halloween” vibe.
Also, this game is super underrated! I can’t believe how panned it is by critics, the PSP remake was super good and has like a 66 on metacritic.
It really had a lot of charm that the new version cut out.
Totally underrated!
I put hours and hours into Valkyria Chronicles 2. I know a lot of people don’t like the entry, but I had a blast.
I met my best friend through playing Liberty City Stories together every lunch time in high school while sitting on a window sill.
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core. First Final Fantasy game I ever played. That game was so fun and to this day I remember being blown away by the cutscenes. I played that game so much and never actually managed to finish it since I wasn’t too mechanically gifted and forgot about core mechanics. When I found out about the remake/remaster I immediatley bought it for the switch and got to relive those childhood memories and actually finish the game.
My favourite memory is playing Freedom Unite solo, and finally reaching G rank on my own. It’s a tough game, and making it that far without being carried was the most satisfying moment in any game for me. When I first started Freedom 2 (the previous version) I struggled to hunt even basic small monsters, and looking back on that journey made the 200+ hour playtime completely worth it for me. I think G rank took another 100 on top of that lol.
This thread goes to show how criminally underrated GTA Chinatown Wars is. It’s a blast and playing it definitely belongs to my favorite PSP memories! I’m actually still playing it with PPSSPP on my phone, lol

DON DON DON DON DON Oh god here we go again
Those games were such a fever dream. I genuinely have no memory of what happened in any of them, I just vaguely remember controlling an army of eyeball men with drums
I have fond memories of Lumines and the Wipeout games.
I really only had one obsession on the PSP:
Work Time Fun. I had bought the PSP just for that when a friend showed it to me.
I didn’t have one, but my friend did. We played a lot of Star Wars Battlefront II.
Monster Hunter was absolutely perfect as a handheld game. Played way too much of it back in the day on my psp during road trips.
Me too! PSP for me is playing Monster Hunter on the crapper until my legs are numb lol
Oh absolutely did that a few times! 😂
