I would not have bought it, no. I don’t really buy games.
Also it was like 50-60 euros, that’s a dent in my monthly drinking budget man, I can’t take that. It’s like one nice or two semi-nice or three okay bottles of rum.
cope and act like piracy was doing them a favor.
It’s you who’s “coping” actually.
The EU commissioned a study on piracy affecting sales some years back. When it came back as “no negative effect, perhaps even a positive one”, the EU lowkey tried suppressing the study.
After having watched me play BG3 solo for 2,100 hours (with occasional breaks for other games, obviously) my spouse suddenly decided they want to play BG3 with me. They’re not a gamer and we’ve never played a video game together before for more than a half hour. Now we’re on our second multiplayer playthrough.
I’m so happy about the sudden interest and their sincere investment, and I don’t want to break the spell, but honestly I was kind of ready to play something else. 😆
I feel this. My spouse and my brother are both autistic, and they’ve decided BG3 is their comfort game. At least three nights per week, for coming up on three years, we sit down and play it together for a couple of hours.
I’m glad my partner and my brother get along and have fun, but FFS, let’s play anything else.
It continues to have strong player numbers in general, which is probably why it never goes on a decent sale. Best I’ve seen is 25% off launch price. My patient gamer ass is not paying that for a years old game, no matter how good it is.
I’m in the same boat as the parent poster, with the added wrinkle that I won’t pay $90 (CAD, with taxes) for any game. I have too many great unplayed games (mostly from bundles), so I can’t justify spending that much on a single game. Especially with cost of living rising so much in the last few years.
But BG3 will still be good in 5 years when I can get it for $20-30. I’m in no rush.
I mean yea it’s slop but it’s not frames. Frame gen is separate. But yea fuck upscaling too, I’m always just rawdogging my gameplay because mom didn’t raise no bitch
I can see why some would consider it playable but it was unplayable for me, sub 60fps and the graphics had to be so low the textures looked terrible. Or I had to enable frame gen which also makes it look like shit.
I think it depends more on the person than the tech. I’ve only had AAA games on my Deck for demoing to others. I’m too spoiled by my desktop to actually enjoy playing them that way.

“No no, you see? We need DRM or nobody will buy the game, trust. No game without DRM ever sells!”
Me and my brother pirated it, loved it, bought it. (Especially because the multiplayer works on pirated version and very simply so.)
Piracy increases sales.
Remember the PS1 demos? Had I been of working age back then, I’d have bought half of them merely because I loved the demos.
Well, piracy increases sales of a good game. Same as demos, though demos may misrepresent the actual gameplay if done poorly.
You would have brought it anyway. I like piracy it’s fine but you don’t have to cope and act like piracy was doing them a favor.

There’s the actual study.
And here’s the news about the suppression.

So, you don’t pay full price on launch because you better wait, but then the discount is not enough because it’s too old, right?
Some games never get a big sale, also years old now is not the same difference as it were when hardware evolved way faster

And still they can’t be bothered to add FSR 3 or XeSS 2 which would greatly improve performance

So weird, because it runs like ass on SD too.

Works fine for me. They even released an optimized build for steam deck
Really tried to give it a go on my deck but it was unplayable for me.
[email protected] too (is this how you tag people on lemmy? - no it’s not, help lol)
Are your SSD’s nearly full by any chance? Could that be messing your performance up?
Just curious, what kind of hardware are you used to gaming on?
Not even close. I understand that some people find it playable; I said for me. It’s a desktop only title. I didn’t like the controls on deck either.
206.3 hours for me, I’m only halfway through the achievements and I am on my way up to the giant brain for the first time.
spoiler
I’m really pissed that I had to become a tentacle monster to take on the brain. (Not sure if different choices would have changed the outcome.)
Absolutely could make different choices. There’s… a lot of different ways for the game to end.
Karlach or Orpheus could take that role too
