Blizzard just shadow-dropped the expansion as part of the series' 30th anniversary celebration.

I see how it exists for “Diablo II: Resurrected,” but how do people who own the original version of the game get it?

(Not that I plan to pay Blizzard any more money – I’ve been boycotting them since not long after Diablo II came out the first time – but I still gotta ask for curiosity’s sake.)

I can’t tell if you’re kidding, but just in case: this is for the 2021 remastered version. They’re not making new paid content for a game that came out in 2000.

So the headline is a lie. Diablo II isn’t getting its first expansion in 25 years. The Diablo II Remaster is getting its first expansion.

Correct. This was a contention of mine in another thread. Not the first click bait article I’ve seen about it and they all say the same fucking thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard sent out a marketing packet for these people to “publish.”

You come on. Those are two different games.

They are but they aren’t, and it seems mostly pedantic to hammer on that.

I think the main problem here is the claim that the game is getting it’s “first update in 25 years

If the update applied to both the original and the remaster, then it would be 25 years, but in this case the update only applies to the 5 year old “Resurrected” game.

Are they cross-compatible? If no, then they’re not the same game.

So Skyrim on Switch is not the same game as Skyrim on PC…?

Or even more obviously, Oblivion Remastered on the PC vs. Oblivion on the Xbox 360.

The article is a bit unclear about it, but the article does say it’s for the remastered version. So their headline is misleading, and OP just used the official article title.

So it’s a bad title. Unfortunately it’s poor form and considered misleading to change an article’s headline. Still, OP should have noted that the headline straight-up lies.

“finally, decent inventory management” BULLSHIT! Diablo 2 inventory management is great, what they did now is give more slots because whiny modern players CAN’T MANAGE their inventories FOR SHIT!
This loot filter though, looks great.

Yeah the “not enormous” size was there for a reason (it was soo good when you got the horadrim cube lol)

Modern players should play Tetris to master inventory management in Diablo and Resident Evil.

I used to get the D2 version of that when I would play for 16 hours a day, weeks and months at a time.

I swear people downvoting here would be upvoting articles saying “finally with auto target this FPS game fixed the problem of how hard it is to spot enemies”

That’s exciting, good on them for giving back to the community.

Hopefully it’s better than the monk that got added to Diablo I in 1997.
