This is exactly why I NEVER play online only games, someday I will want to play it and the servers will be off. I refuse to enjoy a game and have it taken away from me.

I vote with my wallet, but Sadly most people don’t feel the same and so many people give in and play those games anyway.

I really hope the stop killing games goes somewhere world wide, I did sign several of their petitions.

Consumers are not the problem. Advertising and marketing are VERY effective at convincing people to do things that go against their own interests. You can try your best to be sceptical of everything, but someone’s gonna convince you to spend money where you don’t really want to.

I think Anthem probably created a lot of peoples “NEVER” lists. I don’t think I’ve preordered, played a live service game or a BioWare game at least since anthem.

I like your energy but direct it entirely at the companies, not the consumers. It’s the same kind of energy as big corporate convincing people that personal responsibility will solve climate crisis. It’s great to vote with your wallet but really we need regulation and policy that protects consumers against this shit.

Companies making shitty products need somebody to buy them. If consumers buy them, they are also part of the problem.

One of the biggest issues I have with online currently is that Corps run it from the ground up. It used to be if you wanted you could host a server or pay for one to be hosted, set game mechanics how you’d like, hell even run mods. You could then find like minded individuals and form clans and have a blast. Now you’re forced into their model, and if it fails well fuck you. I would have LOVED for Anthem to be successful. The gameplay that was there was amazing, just undercooked. Knowing the insanity of individuals when they’re passionate about something, I have no doubt this game would have been more successful if they’d released private servers and modding tools.

Speaking of clans, I haven’t had the feeling of bonding with other players in at least 10 years. That’s when it started to fade to my feeling. Now you jump online with a completely different set of players each time.

In the older games we used to make player towers and shoot the shit, trying all sorts of things in the game. You get to know the people and form teams/clans. Fun times.

Yup. Completely agree. It’s still relatively easy to meet people in say MMORPGs, but that isn’t for everyone. I used to love PvP games, especially the BF franchise but it’s just not the same anymore when they skill set you every match and it’s just chaos until the round ends.

Automatic matchmaking and server migration ruined a lot of online gaming. Gone are the days where you could find a friendly server in the server browser and spend hours with the same group of people, building friendships and rivalries. Now it’s just lobbies full of strangers getting reshuffled every match.
