I wouldn’t make such a prediction as there are many possibilities and people like hanging onto things. One possible outcome could be the introduction of UBI, which could allow people only pursue the jobs or activities the want. That could be upskilling to become a research, becoming a race car driver, or a streamer, starting a company using AI, traveling the world, helping out the elderly, and so much more. There would still be production and consumption with popular products making some companies richer than others, but it could lead to a happier populace within a capitalistic system.

Of course there are dystopian scenarios like cleansing of the unemployed, remigration of the homeless, forced labor, and so much more that could keep the capitalistic system alive.

Adapt or die. Societies that do not adapt to these changes will not have a good time. It’s easy to ignore workers and just say “well, you’re replaced, now fuck off”. If the government doesn’t take care of them and keep them happy, it could easily have negative consequences for the government.

Imagine if 30% of the workforce were fired within 5 years and couldn’t get a job because AI did everything. Would 30% of the population just be happy going from something to homeless? How would the country absorb such a change? Governments can keep looking at the shiny money companies pay them to look the other way, but just because they ignore to see things doesn’t mean they aren’t happening. Either they are forward thinking and prepare or they will find themselves up a creek.

There is no gray, only black and white. EA can’t be a bad company because Nestlé is the worst. You’re either good or you’re bad. That’s how the world works 🤷

Anti Commercial-AI license

Yeah, there’s absolutely no reason people hate EA. They are an insane force for good in this world and there’s reason to ever look past the shiny veneer. After all, everything shiny must be good. I mean, why vote with your wallet when you could just open the wallet and give money to whatever you like without any fore or afterthought. Money doesn’t give corporations any power, that’s just an illusion. Keep consuming and all will be fine.

Nintendo had registered the patents in a filing not long after Palworld’s release, setting the stage for the lawsuit.

How is that even legal? Decades after releasing something, a competitor comes along and releases their product, so you decide “now’s the time to file a patent” and you can kill the competitor. That should create a very unstable business environment as no new business can be safe when making a patent check as they can be filed after you created a product by somebody else. It makes no sense.

This is by design. They could make switching easy, hut they explicitly choose to make it hard so that people think twice about it.

I’m glad you enjoyed that read 😄 The sections you highlighted also gave me quite the chuckle. Very wishful (and frankly naive) thinking on Japan’s side, IMO.

There are new guidelines on programming.dev that allow making a blog community, and I have considered it. If I do ask them to create it, you might see more stuff around 😉 Have a good one!

Matrix and Revolt do exist. Revolt being the “spiritual” successor of Discord.

Thanks for the article, I’ll have to read it later on. Mind if I get back to you after?

Sure dude. Your response will be in my inbox, so I won’t miss it :)

Yeah, Japan’s decision took me by surprise and at the same time it didn’t. They have been into AI for a long time, but as you say, copyright is quite important to them. This is on of the articles I remember. After that, I did question adding the signature, but lawsuits in the US are still ongoing and with Facebook being in litigation right now due to torrenting Anna’s Archive give me… some hope (despite the current political situation).

Anti Commercial-AI license

I should probably write a blog post about it. Basically it’s there to possibly get commercial LLMs in trouble for scraping licensed stuff. LLMs have been tricked into revealing their training data and gotten in trouble for that. There are also ongoing lawsuits due to those revelations. Maybe the most notable is the one against Github’s Microsoft’s CoPilot for spitting out licensed (GPL and also copyrighted from private repos) code.

Whether the lawsuits will be successful or not is yet to be determined (Japan already considers nearly everything fair game for training AIs and machine learning). Whether they will have an impact if they are successful is also unknown. It just costs me a key-stroke (and the occasional response to a friendly question like yours), so I do it 🤷 Once all my hope is lost, I might stop.

“Big shout out to the right wing free speech lovers who took time out of their day screaming about dei & immigrants, to cry abt this!” he posted on X after his stream was taken down.

What are you doing on X, bro? Join the fediverse and stop using Musk’s platform FFS.

Not entirely. The assets to play the game are not provided. To play the games, you need to buy them.

As one Google Play Store customer said: “No consent given, install could not be paused or stopped. I watched it install itself on my phone on January 22, 2025 (couldn’t pause or cancel it) AND it did all of that over mobile network (my settings are to never download or install anything unless I’m on Wi-Fi). Description tells you nothing. Permissions are for virtually EVERYTHING.”

However, some have reported that SafetyCore reinstalled itself during system updates or through Google Play Services, even after uninstalling the service. If this happens, you’ll need to uninstall SafetyCore again, which is annoying.

I’ve said that this is possible multiple times and people have straight up to me “you don’t understand how android security works - this is impossible”. Well, here we are…

Terrible mobile website asking to turn off the adblocker making the entire thing unusable. Can’t be bothered to go through archive.is to make it readable…

I’ll be buying a new graphics card in maybe 5 years. Hopefully AMD will not be just “discount NVIDIA”. At best, there’ll be a new contender on the market. Maybe even from China.

It’s too early to hope for one from the EU. They need another 10 years. 4 years for the EU to realise they need sovereign hardware and actually fund it, another 4 to flip flop on the issue after the US votes out the fascists and seem like possible partners again, and 2 during which they will have finally put their balls on the table and committed to it. Actually, writing that, make it 12 - 15 years.

It’s up to the community to make these games go viral. Most games in my library were under 15€ on sale and I don’t think I have a single “AAA” title in there. They are just pricey, require expensive hardware and are most likely all hype. It shouldn’t have been a surprise that most players can’t afford that shit.

To me, this list is just yet another confirmation that game media like the one you mentioned is just paid and unoriginal. They ride a wave to get clicks, that’s it.

Anti Commercial-AI license

Kinda. They are not very customisable. They are locked down boxes. You can’t run your normal applications on it, control it with a mouse or keyboard, etc.

I’m not sure what would be the point. Isn’t it “just” a PC with Steam OS running on it? Would it be to help people just default to SteamOS?

How old is this phone? My guess is corruption at hardware level.

If you can shell into it and have dd or something, try to write a simple file to e.g dd if=/dev/zero of=/sdcard/testfile bs=1MB count=200 If that fails when directly on the device, you can rule out network issues.

You can also try downloading a file from the web that’s about the size of your file or serving your file on the local WLAN with python3 -m http.server and accessing it on your phone. Just to see what happens.

TIL word documents can have DLLs 😅 That’s just asking for an exploit.

Hmm, I thought I’d blocked all the people making uninformed comments about it by now. Glad I can add one to the list 🙂

What would DEI even mean for this game? It looks like it’s about hooded and masked figures killing baddies in a medieval world.

Anti Commercial-AI license

Understandable and agreed. Having a steam console to hook up to the TV is probably what most people would buy and find easiest to use. They did try it a decade ago, but it was too early.

Anti Commercial-AI license

What doesn’t work out of the box for bazzite? Or do you mean literally unpacking a device out of the box and hooking it up to the screen?

Anti Commercial-AI license

Does that mean we’ll start seeing desktop apps like IDEs running in Android? How are you going to develop python on android? A linux container / VM? That’s going to be so wasteful. But I am curious.

It won’t be good for flashing though. Probably once support ends, it’ll be a slow brick upon which one can’t install linux.

Anti Commercial-AI license

More like a portable PC. Probably gaming won’t be possible for longer than 20 minutes.

How about starting a challenge #VoiceLikeAGirl to put on the other shoe in gaming?
Inspired by a discussion I had elsewhere and the article "[Women in Games swaps male and female voices to highlight harassment in gaming](https://www.campaignasia.com/article/women-in-games-swaps-male-and-female-voices-to-highlight-harassment-in-gaming/482231)", how about we start a voice modulation challenge where you have to play at least one online game with a voice modulator to sound like a girl? I'm curious what the experiences would be like.

Could we please add a rule to ban musk spam?
If lemmy had user-defined filters, I'd use them. Right now I'm downvoting the stuff, but there's already a community for musk-related stuff: [[email protected]](https://kbin.social/m/EnoughMuskSpam)
