Humble bundle owned by EA or some crap company now?

Ziff Davis

I don’t expect a short term solution. Where did you read that?

If we keep android the way it is and just slowly boil the frog, there will be little to no incentive to spend lots of money and time on alternatives. If you seriously believe the majority isn’t already getting fucked over by Scroogle and their spy devices, what world do you live in?

There isn’t going to be an acceleration for a non-android phone if android still stays “acceptable”. It’s not like investments and developments in alternatives are going faster than bureaucracy. When do you expect we get a big third or fourth competitor in the smartphone OS market? Harmony by Huawei?

You want immediate change. You’re asking for the impossible and disappointed you’re not getting it or that it isn’t happening.

🤷

You accept that EU has started doing something and then demand they mandate something which they are in the process of doing.

Crapple built up their position to this point over 20 years in a time where the US were considered allies. Trump has luckily come about to change that perception and to allow the EU to stop being a bunch of pansies clammering to their daddy protector. They cannot piss of the US completely at the moment as it would take a single presidential order from a rampantly maniacal orange man to switch of most of Europe.

Change doesn’t happen immediately. It’s slow. Give it time.

The EU commission has multiple ongoing cases against Apple. The opened a new one in April regarding their non-compliance on multiple fronts, including the app store (which is related to Google’s bullshit). They have to give a response within 12 months which means that by 25 April 2026 we should have a response on what the EU will be doing.

The EU forced Apple to make their phones more repairable, they forced them to introduce USB-C charging for all their mobile devices (laptop, phone, and smartwatch IIRC), forced them to implement an alternative app store (very flawed implementation but see above), and probably more that I’m unaware of.

The EU isn’t perfect, it’s being influenced by the US, which have the goal of breaking it up), but they are doing something, which is more than can be said about most countries. I understand cynicism, but in this case, I still maintain that letting google fuck up Android would do the world a service, just like Trump is doing the world a service by fucking his country up. We may go through a few years (maybe decades if the US succeed in breaking up the EU) of difficulty because of it, but we will come out stronger afterwards.

Most people cannot and will not appreciate the EU and everything is has until they are impacted themselves.

I kinda want to see this fail in Europe. As in Google implements it and pisses the EU the fuck off. Please, I just want to see Google smacked in the mouth for implementing this, then losing billions fighting it in court while the EU implements digital sovereignty because the US can’t be trusted.

Please. It’s the only way people learn. First they have to lose something before understanding what it is they had.

Qualcomm should embrace Linux instead of relying on Microsoft. Valve recognized that in at least 2012. Who knows how long it will take Qualcomm to wake up.

People are starting to leave Windows. Windows 11 on ARM is not going to be a good experience and who will want all the AI crap slowing down a gaming rig? People won’t be able to install Windows 10 on the new ARM devices so the most likely option will be Linux with either SteamOS, Bazzite or something else that can run Steam.

Valve has also been investing in running x86_64 on ARM (can’t remember the name of the project) and even going to use it in the Steam Frame. It will run on Linux, not windows. Ignoring Linux is going to be idiotic if Qualcomm wants to be appealing to gamers.

Another place where Europe needs to throw off the US shackles. Import and exporting goods is not a problem, but allowing one country to monopolise your critical infrastructure is a decision that’s beyond stupid. Sometimes the decision is forced, but once there is power to eject the monopoly and the decision is made not to, that’s incredibly stupid.

The Trump administrations showing their true colors has been the eye opener the world needed.

What a surprise. I makes me think of the US women treating Eastern Asian women who married western men like whores, victims, or gold-diggers. Many people think about the world locally, not internationally. They apply their ways of thinking to the rest of the world and have trouble understanding that what is normal for me isn’t normal for you (and vice versa). They have trouble understanding that things aren’t always as they seem and making a summary judgement about a person from a short slice of their life, which they can interpret wrong, does not a person make.

I believe we have different definitions of slop. Slop isn’t the input to me but the output. You can get all the best ingredients to make a pie but if you mix it wrong, you get slop. Same goes for low quality input being moulded into a gem.

AI doesn’t always output slop.

And if you’re focusing on input, then all your electronics are slop. It’s almost guaranteed that child labor and exploitation was involved in collecting the resources required to build it. Your chocolate is most likely slop tooby your logic - if you bought any big brand or no name chocolate, child labor was almost certainly involved. And those children were likely also sold by their parents. There are also US products made from slaves (they call them prisoners, but is it really OK to lock somebody up for stealing a cookie and forcing them to work 8 hour days for cents per hour?) and in China Uyghurs are also forced to work unpaid. If you drink tea or coffee, boy is that all slop. The amount of land that ceded place to the large tea plantations (and let’s not get started on products with palm oil) and underpaid, overworked workers (mostly women BTW) are almost guaranteed to make that tea or coffee = slop.

That’s uh… interesting? I bet it wasn’t written in Godot.

This researchxxl person then also released a new version Synthing-Lite on fdroid.

I’m so confused by this situation. Updates to syncthing-fork have been disabled. Doesn’t seem trustworthy at the moment.

That’s a good question I dont have an answer to. Maybe there are ways to short where you can just hold, but I dont know how. Maybe there’s a way to borrow lots of RAM and GPUs, sell them, then buy them back when the price drops and sell them for cheap back to whom you borrowed. But I dont know who would make that deal.

Every month I hope to read an article about some bug name using RISCV in consumer hardware as a flagship chip, but alas, it’s ARM again.

A good friend’s grandma was missing her friends and I suggested getting her online so that she could meet other people while gaming, but the idea was rejected as she had enough trouble fighting out WhatsApp. Her daughters had to call her on Google Messenger until it was killed.

She finally died of cancer but was very happy while doing it because of the relief. No more pain, no more loneliness. I wish we could introduce gaming to more seniors. It might make their life more interesting. Then could even have a Gray League and stream themselves to other aging people.

I bet that if the people born between after 1980 get to retire, gaming will be pretty normal. Unless social media has eaten away at their brains too much. Or something greater comes along like brain to computer interfaces.

Signal, unfortunately, doesn’t have good group support. Herr are only 2 privilege levels: admin and user. It seems like it will take a long time before signal upgrades group chats.

I dont trust a word Google says regarding privacy.

This has been a feature since at least 2012 on every Android I’ve tested and it never required google. Pixels can’t be that far behind. Since it’s advertising Google, I bet the recording feature is sending it straight to the cloud before or after writing the file locally (or writing it straight to google drive).

If they are going chronologically, the 4channers and other right wingers only got their claws into the project in the last week. So hopefully they didn’t cause too much havoc.

I can’t wait to see their content on the fediverse. They made a video about getting away from big tech but don’t mirror their stuff here. I think it’s a damn shame.

They could even host their own instances.

Interesting, but I’m curious about how it comlaresbto other technologies in cost, maintenance, and efficiency. There are molten salt batteries being tested as well as hydrogen fuel cells, even heated concrete and flywheels.

These seem simple but that can hide complex problems.

This is what I said

There was no documentation or guide for embedding it into

This is what you posted

If you’d like to embed Servo in your own application, consider using tauri-runtime-verso, a custom Tauri runtime, or servo-gtk, a GTK4-based web browser widget.

Great documentation and exceptional guide! 👏 What next, are you going to tell me that the code is the documentation? “Just read the code”?

So, in order to embed Servo you need:

  • to use Tauri: sure, pull in a huge other project to be able to use our project 🫰
  • use GTK: again, pull in a bunch of unrelated dependencies to be able to embed our project

I can’t give servo some graphical surface (OpenGL, Vulkan, Metal, DX, whatever), call a function to open a webpage and see it draw on that surface. There’s no lib with documentation on crates.io, no bindings for other languages, and non of the things I mentioned in my previous comment.

It feels like this is built just like Gecko was for Firefox: single consumer with the consumer being the “reference implementation”.

I should’ve been clearer: my misgiving is the claim of “embeddable”. If embeddable means having to read the code to find out how instead reading documentation, tutorials, and examples, nah, it ain’t embeddable. It’s possibly embeddable.

It’s like claiming NIXOS were user friendly, assembly being easy, or Arch Linux stable.

How easy is it to embed though? Documentation, tutorial, examples, etc. Making it as embeddable as Gecko is a losing strategy. Making it as embeddable as Blink and WebKit though, then we can talk about embeddable.

I mean embedding into applications. There was no documentation or guide for embedding it into anything last I checked and this is just a demo browser that’s being released. If embedding it into applications is as hard as Gecko, it will have no chance against Blink and WebKit.

Ai still needs them to mindlessly make a robot factory with AI to print AI. I’m sure it’ll be safe

Oh no, they are making an Amazon series out of too. They’re going to Hollywood the shit out of it to make it palatable to the masses.

The “lib snowflake” screamers and “cancel culture” whiners crying about a game showing the KKK negatively is just too good.

It might become the most watched video of the UK parliament. Whether that will have any effect though, is debatable.

Hopefully these won’t end up in the ukraine war on the side of Russia 😐

The US and the West at large just thought China would stay that nice exploitable country for cheap labor forever. Their plans never adjusted to either find an alternative or move back production.

Capitalists praise “the power of the market” for being agile and whatnot, but companies (and many Western countries are being run by companies) target costs optimisation at all costs. They are like AIs with a bias for it and hyper-specialise for it. The only moves companies have are “buy the competitor” and for countries it’s just protectionism until war.

This isn’t praise for China throwing the majority of their citizens into the machine as cheap labor for Western companies, more a critique of the West’s tunnel vision. We will reap what we sowed.

How about starting a challenge #VoiceLikeAGirl to put on the other shoe in gaming?
Inspired by a discussion I had elsewhere and the article "[Women in Games swaps male and female voices to highlight harassment in gaming](https://www.campaignasia.com/article/women-in-games-swaps-male-and-female-voices-to-highlight-harassment-in-gaming/482231)", how about we start a voice modulation challenge where you have to play at least one online game with a voice modulator to sound like a girl? I'm curious what the experiences would be like.

Could we please add a rule to ban musk spam?
If lemmy had user-defined filters, I'd use them. Right now I'm downvoting the stuff, but there's already a community for musk-related stuff: [[email protected]](https://kbin.social/m/EnoughMuskSpam)
