The opening cinematic for the survival crafting game The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria narrated by John Rhys-Davies as Lord Gimli Lockbearer.------The L...
I’m cautiously optimistic, but not preordering because, well… because.
A bit perplexed where the hollow where the lake of the watcher has gone in that image, unless it’s another door into the mountain - though as it’s got the iconic, “Mellon” door, I somehow doubt it. Still, it’s clearly years onwards, so maybe it’s all been filled in and worked on.
Fingers crossed, I really want a new LotR game that’s good, and this looks like it could be one. Maybe a touch of Ancient Domains of Mystery in with it?
Triple A would fuck it just as much, would be poorly optimised trash riddled with MTX and/or DLC. No good studios want to take it on because it’s a beloved world and they dont want to risk it, but these random studios youve never heard of will for that quick buck from the name.
Honestly looks terrible, just speaking about the art style. If you want to go cartoon-y, it looks better if you lean into that style, like Borderlands or Deep Rock Galactic.
This kinda reminds me of Torchlight. Which came out in 2009.
Given what was done with the IP for the Gollum game, I’ve got low hopes at this point, but I’d love to be pleasantly surprised once it launches.
The IP has changed hands, so it can have little that appears like what we got from the films, but it was a nice touch bringing John Rhys-Davies to do the narration for the opening.
I’m not really a fan of what’s being done with LOTR now.
I think we’ll keep seeing more games set in this universe since Christopher Tolkien has passed away. I’m sure some will be good but based off Gollum we’re also going to get absolutely terrible things that are just a quick cash grab with the LOTR name attached.

Epic Games… yeah, that’s a pass chief.
Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old.
We must away, ere break of day,
To find our long forgotten gold.

I wonder if it’ll be like deep rock galactic style
Obligatory “Rock and stone!”
I’ve always considered Deep Rock Galactic to kinda be LoTR 40k.
For
KarlFrodo! These games look awful. Who is giving out the LOTR licenses to these clowns 🤡🤡
If they don’t want to go with AAA studios, they shouldn’t aim for making AAA games. I would actually love a LOTR rpg in the style of an SNES game

This is absolutely what they all are. I thought they would be more careful with the rights.
