The Finals is a massively underappreciated game and I will die on that hill. The game feels good, the sandbox is interesting, the modes are fun, and it has shit tons of style. But it’s a new IP in a world ruled by CoD, so here we are.

The Finals is the only shooter rn I like. I’m so sick of BR and extraction shooters. The main mode in TF feels more like a sport. And having 3 teams instead of just 2 or a FFA is a nice change-up.

I like the premise, I think I just get this very “boomer” complaint about a lot of competitive FPS’s where I’m firing at people’s afterimage hitting nothing as they slide-dash around for 5 seconds before they turn and bring my HP to 0 in 2 headshots.

It could well be a genuine skill difference, but it hasn’t changed much with practice, and it prevents me having much fun with those games. I’d theoretically like such a game if it could somehow shift the skill entirely towards positioning, prediction, and ability/gadget-usage, rather than twitch-reflexes, but it’s a hard design to make work while still satisfying players. Arc might be different if it’s primarily PVE.

That phenomenon is really just up to latency and The Finals, like most modern games, does not show you pings to help adjust to each opponent’s difference.

But if you had tried TF like 3 or 4 months ago, when it was literally bugged to the point that the entire game was desynchronized and what you saw was vastly different than what was actually happening I’d suggest giving it a try now. They finally fixed it. That bug was why I hadn’t been playing for a bit.

I’m so far removed from the loop that I don’t know where the loop is. What is the main mode like?

It’s called Cash Out and you have 3 teams of 3 trying to grab and open a cash box worth 50k. The goal is to reach 100k, so you need to cash out twice. The match starts and there is a box somewhere in the map you run to grab, and then there will be two cash out stations you need to deliver it to (you choose 1 not that you go to both) and then keep control of while it unlocks the box.

Essentially a 3 team KOTH and CTF combined.

Quickplay is 10k for a total of 20k to win.

I thought I had it wrong, but I was thinking it was actually higher lol

It’s been a minute since I played. The important part is that you need to cash out twice to hit the limit. 🤣

It might have been higher in the past or it is higher in tournaments, can’t say. But yes, cash out twice to win.

I’d say tournament is the main mode which is 4 teams as opposed to 3. There’s two cashboxes at the start and 2 cashout stations. Whoever is in the top 2 advances to the second round to compete against 2 top teams that were in another bracket in another 4 team fight. Then in the final round it is 1 v 1 for winner take all.

So first two rounds you have to deal with third partying and be strategic about what teams to attack and final round is head to head to see who the best team is, since previous 2 rounds weak teams can luck into the next round.

So some strategies that might happen is some teams intentionally doubling one cashout station so all 4 teams are fighting over 1 cashout. But, usually there’s 2 cashouts started, so 1 team might be fighting off 2 other teams while 1 team is just chilling. Or both cashouts fighting 1 v 1.

The finals looked interesting, but on launch EAC wasn’t allowing Linux to play and by the time they fixed my friend group had moved on because of that.

Still sad they turned it into an extraction shooter. The original looked more interesting

Yeah, I wish it had been more like Division with a story driven coop campaign with an optional pvp mode in certain zones.

As a not-free-to-play game, those numbers are stickier than what you expect from all the massive Free online game launches

Still, it is a PvEvP Extraction Shooter. That genre is known to have poor player retention.

Really not that interesting compared to The Finals… that felt unique and action packed…

This feels empty and half finished.
