I had Monaco 2 on my watchlist. Now it’s on sale and it reminded me that I never really joined a multiplayer game in the first one. Because I’m afraid that being a noob I will ruin the game for everyone. Same with Due Process. Of course that is a vicious cycle where I keep being noob but don’t join a game out of fear of doing a noob thing. Not noticing something important, not timing something right, etc

Multiplayer in itself is not a problem, I have been playing other multiplayer titles. Both as a noob and a veteran. But the heist theme feels daunting

In a way I feel Payday was kind of easier in that regard because it was geared towards that “oops, I guess we are shooting now”

Has anyone had similar feeling? I probably should “just do it"
I feel like on the first game I should warn the lobby that I’m a noob, at which point I expect half of them to leave :D

If you understand how to play single player, multiplayer isn’t really much different aside from the other human players in most games.

In theory yes. But I feel that in multiplayer I might miss a que to time something. In single player I’m the only moving part

I feel the same way but mainly I don’t like playing “wait and think” games online because of the pressure

Teardown is a fun single player heist game, not that you asked for suggestions. Kind of want to play it again now hmmm…

They’re adding multiplayer, actually. Lots of fun to be had when everything can be destroyed. The workshop mods introduce a lot of new weapons, levels, and vehicles, too.

Got any workshop recommendations? I tried a few right after beating the game but found them lackluster. I’m guessing there’s a lot more now

I think I remember some early tech demo videos from that one. Is it able to provide a challenge when everything can be torn down?

Each level has multiple things to steal/destroy but once you pick up/destroy the first thing, the alarm goes off and a timer starts.

The gameplay is mostly setting up the heist. You break holes in walls, build bridges, set up chain reactions, etc to find a route that picks up everything and escape in time. You have limited ammo but you get unlimited spray paint to mark the path for yourself

I know some people hate it but my only complaint is that some of the DLC is pretty meh. Base game is a blast, though!

[Edit] also, I would avoid watching anyone play it BUT it won’t necessarily spoil any “solutions” because there’s an infinite amount of ways you can beat a level

As an aside, if you want to try a fun heist game without needing to worry about letting down any teammates, I highly recommend checking out Heat Signature.

It’s single-player and is a 2D, top-down heist game where you sneak aboard space ships to complete objectives like assassinating a crew member, stealing something valuable, hijacking the entire ship, etc.

It looks simple, but things get crazy fast. One minute you’re sneaking behind guards and knocking them out with a wrench, the next you’re teleporting into a locked cabin, shooting out the glass so the explosive decompression blows you and your target into space, then teleporting back to your original location (because you used a recall teleporter that does so automatically after a few seconds) while they slowly asphyxiate, before hacking the nearby turrets to shoot down any investigating guards while you sprint back to your shuttle and escape.

I loved that game. It’s been a while since I played but I remember the only way I could reliably do the max-difficulty missions quickly was by using the brick spaceship to smash directly into the room where the target was or something insane like that!

Thanks for suggestion I played it and it was cool. Gunpoint from the same developer was also a blast

I’d also recommend Invisible Inc., it’s a top down stealth and kinda puzzle game that I played a lot when it was called Incognita. Completely single player with lots of replayability

Thanks for the suggestion

I know that one too. I don’t remember how far I got but somehow at some point I lost interest. I felt that either I ace if the guard will go left or right, or I’ll end up with alarm and swarming enemies without much to mitigate the situation

Kinda. Whenever I play a multiplayer game that has a single player component I always finish the single player component first. It allows me to get a feel for the games engine, the general mechanics, and to practice in an environment where the only person I’m inconveniencing is myself.

I do that too but I still feel unprepared for the real thing

Then I guess my only other advice is to come to grips is you’re never fully prepared for your first time. With anything at all. And it’s not just you. It’s that way for everyone.

Yup, this is why I never ever play multiplayer in video games. Also most of my board game play is solo too.

For some weird reason with RL it’s easier than with co-op heist games :D

I’m no psychologist by any means, but I’d say it’s because in reality you have to do those things. You have to do your first job interview, you have to apply for assistance, etc. And whether or not you like those things is largely irrelevant, they have to be done.

In video games you choose to do those things. And you’re largely responsible for if you enjoy them or not. And no one wants to waste time doing something they end up not enjoying.

Hm. Interesting insight, there might be something to it

Could be. Also equally possible I’m completely talking outta my ass.
