I generally don’t like MMO’s (themepark doesn’t work for me and sandbox is extremely difficult to do well) and I don’t like superhero themes at all, but I do wish Ship of Heroes found some success (indie companies doing well is good for all of us). It doesn’t seem this will be the case with Ships of Heroes.
I’m wondering if this was a case for greed or need. Were they in the hole and just trying to break even? Or did they think they had a sure thing? My issue with small indie companies taking on things like this is you could do a ton of creative marketing to drum up sales. ‘get 3 friends to buy a copy and we will give you 3 free months!’ or ‘buy the game at retail and get 6 months free’ idk, just seems dumb to shoot yourself in the foot right out the gate.
