It is very ideal and is perfect for those scenarios…
Now this is not a scenario for regular people. Nobody I know would drop cash on a new PC just to play a single game at max settings. Most people are just content that games work at a decent enough setting on the devices / console they have and that is what Game Pass offers.
Comparing Game Pass to watching movies in 240p is a false analogy. Most games on Game Pass run just fine, especially for the devices people play it on.
@Colorcodedresistor @Katana314 I agree with you. I tried streaming games using Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Network and it was all very laggy and sub par. If streaming games were the only way I could play games I would rather just go touch grass. I have and will most certainly build a PC just to play one game because I love video games and I will not settle for less.
I mean…yes. It is “not ideal”.
To many people, anything other than 240hz monitors running on an overclocked quad GTX 4080 is “not ideal”.
It’s an option for convenience in a world where many people have less than ideal circumstances, not a totalitarian push for cloud control. XCloud was only ever advertised as an extra feature, not some prime method of game delivery.
Being able to quickly try out a game before downloading the honking thing is gamer hell?
as someone who has used xbox cloud gaming before (i have to use cloud gaming cuz my pc is shit), the latency isn’t that bad! i played hi fi rush on it and it felt fine
I cancelled my Xbox ultimate subscription because of the latest price increase. Eur 12,99 to Eur 14,99. Just no.
Cheaper to buy the games.
… that really depends a lot on your habits
Having a queue to play a single player game is more and more common each year. Most recently with Diablo 4 DRM. 😪
As for Game Pass having a longer queue might be a good thing for the future of Game Pass in general. More people using the service. 🤔 maybe…
I can’t imagine waiting in a queue to play a single player game.
Yeah that’s pretty wild. Guess these will be the hiccups before Cloud Gaming really becomes mainstream.
The input lag alone is a dealbreaker for me. After I bought my handheld I’ve stopped using it all together
Honestly I hope that game streaming doesn’t become mainstream ever, it could mean the end of traditional game ownership. And I think that input lag will always be a thing even with better network speed.
What handheld have you got?
Logistically I’m really not sure how companies can promise a consistent experience with input lag considering you have to live close to data centers. Unless they’re gonna build them all around the country lol. Their tech for streaming I feel is very inferior from Nvidia and Even Stadia at the time.
I think for the next at least half decade, it’ll be a supplemental perk to GPU and nothing more. I don’t see it ending traditional game ownership just yet. Unfortunately the way digital purchase has been so widely adopted, we’re already halfway there. The used game market has slowly dwindled over the years.
I have the ROG Ally and I’m loving it. I’ve always been a console gamer and this finally converted me.
Yeah, it is probably not happening soon.
True, with DRM we can’t really be owner of the game that’s why DRM free game are the best, and at least even with DRM games in some case games can be played offline, they can be cracked too, but with streaming there would be no more piracy, and no more access without internet and a subscription, and modding would be also impossible.
Nice, I have a Steam Deck and it is awesome that we can play that much games on a handheld device.
Traditional game ownership already ended once after the popularization of digital downloads, but you’re right, it could end all over again in an even more dire way if cloud gaming gets popularized as well.
I think there’s always going to be a demand for games running on local hardware, in the same way there’s always demand for high end GPUs/monitors/etc even if it’s only a small proportion of gamers who are actually willing to fork out for it. So I don’t think PC or consoles are going anywhere.
I do think it’s inevitable that Cloud gaming will get bigger and bigger though. In fact I’m sure that over the next decade or so it’ll probably overtake the existing medium in terms of market share. The convenience and low cost of it will be enough to offset the drawbacks for a huge number of users.
