Real Sociedad midfielder David Silva is set to retire from football after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) injury. The 37-year-old, who joined Sociedad in the summer of 2020, sustained the injury in training earlier this week. The injury has led the former Spain international to call time on his 19-year playing career. What an awful way to go out. I know it sounds cliché and that life doesn’t work like that but he deserves better.

Such a phenomenal player, probably underrated even at this point, honestly. I really wanted him to show his magic in the UCL one last time after helping La Real qualify, but life is cruel.

Such a hard way to go. Had a high grade partial ACL tear (and some damage to my MCL as well) last year at the same age and I can relate ever so slightly. Feel bad for the guy.
