Afiak, they are still leaving in the ADB option to install non-Google apps, for now.

Or use a ROM (grapheneos, e, lineage, etc)
AFAIK Graphene is Pixel-only (and only those still currently supported by GOOG), and I’m given to understand eOS is insecure AF. Add in locked-down bootloaders having become so common, there needs to be a better answer.
I’m open to the better answer - what is it?
This is not entirely accurate. People involved with Graphene have been caught spreading misinformation about /e/ and Calyx many times. The head dev himself is severely paranoid, to the point he makes wild accusations against anyone who doesn’t agree with him.

They are working on getting another manufacturer up to their security standards. How long that’ll take, who knows, but they are working on it.
e os is not less secure than any other Android. Maybe Graphene is better in that regard but that’s literally the point of it. e should be fine for all normal Android usage.
“Better answer” means “enforce antitrust and consumer protection law to punish corporations for attempting to usurp device owners’ property rights.”
I’m saying this as a general strategy for everyone. Roms basically require a PC, and a lot of people nowadays do not have one.
You can use Graphene’s web installer in a chromium based browser, even from another Android phone if you have one. So they don’t necessarily require a full blown PC. You can even do it from your steamdeck, if you were so inclined.
I’d venture a guess that most people who know what Graphene OS is probably own a PC of some sort.
Lol I haven’t used a PC in years mostly because of money problems, because Android mostly functions as a computer, I mean torrenting, VLC, uBlock Origin… I didn’t even need a PC, and again money issues, so i only had a phone as my main “computer”. Only recently got a SteamDeck and its my only PC.
Hence “most” haha
Yeah, feel like most techy people who go out of there way to install a custom rom are going to have a PC in some capacity. Its those that don’t have a PC, but set up a custom rom that is more rare to see.
Those who only have phones I’d guess are those who tend to be less tech savvy, but not always. But, phone only people probably on average don’t know file systems with everything just being apps.
Are you very young or a NEET or something?
Those people are morons, and probably don’t care about their rights on their mobile device anyhow.
“Oh, you didn’t spend at least a few hundred dollars on a device that you aren’t going to use for anything except flashing a custom ROM once? What a moron!”
People who don’t own a PC at home are morons. To believe that they wouldn’t use it for anything except flashing a custom ROM on a device is pure hyperbole.
OK, what exactly does an average person need a computer for that cannot be adequately done on a phone? Because I do have a few relatives with computers that just gather dust permanently returned off, and they don’t seem to mind.

Basically anything at all?
Idk bout you but the Phone is for phone calls and occasionally - IM.
To create instead of consume. Mobile phone users are all tiktok brains who don’t have more than an ounce of attention and have lost the ability to create things. I know to someone who only consumes consumes consumes, that this would be a really alien concept, but PCs are there for creating things. They also do everything far more effectively than a mobile phone ever would.
