China Telecom is driving 50G-PON and FTTR deployments

I don’t need faster internet. If they had a 2mbps connection for $15, I’d be happy.

Instead, the slowest is 20mbps, for $70. To watch youtube. Wtf do I need all the extra speed for???

You’re getting scammed by your ISP. That’s a terrible value. I bet they have a monopoly in your area too.

Area? Try building. It’s written into the lease of the apartment. Even if you want NO internet, you still gotta pay.

Is that even legal

In America? Almost certainly

You’re talking about the USA, not China. Internet costs in the PRC are much lower than the USA.

Ok. Forget price. A 2mbps connection does just fine for watching youtube. What is a 50,000mbps connection going to do for me when my internet activity is so minimal?

You don’t need to pose that question because you aren’t getting a 50,000mbps connection, as you’re not in China.

You heard it here folks, you shouldn’t question something unless you are directly affected by it.

Thanks for always being there and all that you do Miles

what need do i have for electricity if i can just gather some wood and make a fire?

You could watch two YouTube films at once. (No but seriously 2Mb/s is too low even for just YouTube. YouTube recommends 20Mb/s. And that’s probably assuming 30hz. So you probably actually want at double or more. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/78358)

Additionally, Dolby recommends at least 50Mbps for 4K/HDR. Streaming services pretend they aren’t listening though.

0.2 Mbps is sufficient to stream 1080p.
