You all just escaped death, running around in dangerous areas you could die (and be brought back to life heh) at any second. Yeah that group is getting frisky if possible, then see where things go later, if you both make it. I haven’t made it to act 3 myself so wasn’t even aware of those romance options got fleshed out.
Going back awhile now too for that no install right? Like didn’t PS3 have some installs? My memory is fuzzy on when it exactly started, but yeah it was nice to just pop in the media (cart, disc) and play. That was a great perk of console games, especially rentals, though there was a small time I could rent PC games when I moved to a city in the late 90s. These days I mostly play on PC anyways so always install but it was nice for the first few decades of my gaming to not require it.
To each their own on BG3, I used to play number of tabletop RPG games (many years ago now but a variety) and to me BG3 gives you enough options to feel like you can play as your character rather than just walk between combats, as well as avariety of ways to solve issues. Watching YouTube plays amazes me on the says other people solve the issue. I also used to play the old DnD PC games and it feels much better from my perspective, so that’s probably sways me.
I can see your view but to me BG3 is more intended as a single player game, especially with the companion interactions, so I can see why multiplayer would be lacking. Thankfully I haven’t had many bugs but have heard of them. For reference I have about 120 hours after trying beta a few goes and only a bit in act 2 so it’s a favorite of mine and am biased.
Thank you for the recommendation on the mod, I will definitely give that a try and see how the game plays. I keep meaning to reinstall anyways and new mods always give more incentive.
The gameplay is good but from what I played, outside of combat, it was a bit lackluster, and rations were a pain when I played. Though it’s hard not to compare it to BG3 in that regard. I did like Larian’s system to interact with the environment and liquids too that made some battles more dynamic. Maybe there’s more of that is Solasta than I saw too, I didn’t get far, should give it another go, it has solid combat which is at least half of a good DnD game.
You know this isn’t comparable to an aRPG I hope. It’s more comparable to DnD on a computer, so a cRPG. They really have minimal in common besides leveling up and finding gear, though aRPGs make you grind for gear, a cRPG will let you find it through various means. It’s a story game more than killing things game, some of the best outcomes happen when you don’t kill. I don’t play on PlayStation so can’t comment on the bugs but haven’t found many in my many hours on PC even through beta.
Heh has there ever been a palladium rpg system in a video game? Really I’m curious, I loved their IPs (ahhh Robotech) and some neat ideas that weren’t other IPs but the system left a lot to be desired. To be fair I never played much of them but recall reading rifts, superhero one and Robotech game books back in the 90s a lot.
I could have sworn when I pledged in 2014-2016 (can’t recall at the moment) I pledged cause Squadron 42 was hyped to be released in a much shorter time. I’m not complaining, I spent some more cash on it, but I thought I was going to get a fancier single player space game before now. I loved Wing Commander as a kid, even had to get a tech to figure out the highmem.sys and possibly other optimization in the windows .bat files to even play so wanted to play the newest of Chris Rpberts.
Of course maybe I misunderstood at the time and it wasn’t supposed to be coming that soon, which is why I’m not bothered even if it passed, I think they are trying but got into feature creep. I haven’t logged on in over a year now but I keep an eye on things to try when it seems interesting and get use out of my HOTAS.
There are Pathfinder games by Owlcat, that is a round about earlier version of DnD (based on DnD 3.5? But its system is slightly different). I’d say they’re as good of a successor to Baldur’s Gate before BG3 that you’ll get. The settings are similarish but not exactly the same as Baldur’s Gate. I sort of lump in most DnD settings together though, Kingmaker is transforming a land and becoming a ruler, Path (Wrath*) of the Righteous I haven’t played as much to recall the overall setting but definitely has a more other planes feel to it than Kingmaker does.
*Edited for title correction, thank you commenter that noted it.
I’ve done Factorio from vanilla, vanilla plus qol mods, to angels and bobs mods. Something is so satisfying once you get a train network set up, bots doing their thing (think it’s improved but used to be a performance killer with too many) and watching everything just work. I think I was at 400 hours before I even bothered launching a rocket which is where they say you beat the game. Anyone looking for YouTubers check out KatherineOfSky, think she still does them for factorio and is quite nice to watch and learn from. I actually haven’t played in a few years now but have 600ish hours (maybe left it on a few nights running by accident but mostly true hours), great game to figure out logistics, timings and such. Also personally usually played without the biters since I just wanted to build (glad they took out the requirement to kill biters for science) but watching other people build up defenses seems interesting but too stressful for my play.
I tried some online stuff (no friends and just casual play) with V and it wasn’t interesting at all to me. Mean the story wasn’t stellar in V but I had enough fun through single player. Hopefully they put at least the same effort in VI’s single player. Though with all the companies wanting more money I bet there’ll be more focus for online from the start this time.
Yeah it’s been awhile, old penny arcade about it been almost 20 years. I remember hoping to see it at the time.
Being older I’ve really only known Parker as Spider-Man, don’t even think I’ve watched any animated with Morales yet. The Miles Morales game kinda felt like a Gen-Z Parker to me, in the way they updated to a younger character but almost all of his dialogue felt like it could come from Parker though of course their personal situation and known people are different. I was a bit hesitant on the change at first (harder to take change sometimes heh) but at about halfway through Miles Morales game now I feel quite satisfied with how the cutscenes and story have played out, he feels like a good successor to the hero. I’m sure many people have had similar reactions over the years, especially between gold-silver age comic choices. I’ve always known multiple Flash characters (once I started watching more animated shows) so this isn’t much different.
Yup even if you get top of the line everything PC games usually aren’t meant to be maxed out settings at launch. A high resolution really takes a toll on the hardware too. Of course not every game is like this but for the most part they don’t want the games to look outdated after two years. It’s always fun revisiting games after a PC upgrade because of this. Though since even the devs or publisher said that they didn’t hit performance targets this is noticably worse performance, least from all the articles I’ve seen. I enjoyed the first city skylines except the traffic so am looking forward to buying when it gets optimized.
You played it like 20 years too late, for the record I was about 20 when it was released. Yes there were slogs but couch co-op at the time was fantastic with Halo, multiplayer was much improved with Xbox live and not really there for the first one. There was some way to connect to play with people on the Internet but it wasn’t simple.
Even with the slog areas (Library), with my buddies we played through coop so many times I’m pretty sure I did it solo on legendary a few times solo. I want to say this was one of the first games with regenerating shields for an fps (maybe first but my memory is fuzzy) which people mostly take for granted these days. If I recall you needed health still but that stopped later in the series too. Today I’d probably only play it for nostalgia and have been tempted to pick up the master chief collection to do that.
I see how you can think that playing it first today, but for the time it was something else.
I am curious how they’d translate it myself, I recall the first game vividly as new and thinking it was awesome. Though I assume the next game wouldn’t be marketed for me either. An updated drug scene would be interesting, haven’t had a good one since one of the Batman games. I probably missed some drug sequences but Max Payne’s was pretty effed up at the time.
I never noticed many bugs and had 93 hours in the game under two starts, never finished it though, to be fair I don’t finish most games so not much of a difference there. Was playing today and was reminded how gorgeous it is. I love cyberpunk as a genre and have a half decent video card (3070) and the neon, reflections, smoke all look like some of the best of not the best I’ve seen in my 39ish years of gaming. The downside is at 1080p (yeah I know) is the hair looks distorted/crimped close up (mostly bangs and end of the hair) but still looks better overall than any hair I recall and the rest is all eye candy.
Oh guess I should add, it really does feel like a cyberpunk world should, least to me. The setting is perfect for me but I’m sure there’s flaws I haven’t noticed.
I agree but I think it took about this long from Cyberpunk released till there was a better outlook on No Man’s Sky and I bought both at release, I enjoyed both, but I’d say at release Cyberpunk was a better game at launch (I didn’t have any bugs I got lucky). NMS did much more work on content in the following years to where it’s barely the same experience. Has been awhile since I restarted Cyberpunk will do for 2.0 though. Maybe I haven’t caught much newer content and they added it but it seemed updates were tweaks / fixes than content.
I completely agree with your comment. It’s a bit of a slowdown from play when you search everything but at the same time if playing tabletop you’d have people trying random things that don’t light up for interaction of a video game. In the end it’s only a slight slowdown anyways and does add to immersion so it’s not terrible but more a time waster is all.
I haven’t looked at mods yet, I like to do a first playthrough vanilla usually but I completely forgot they were a thing here, so thanks for the reminder.
I remember those days as having no Internet let alone high speed, I recall reading old ads for some PC games. So they don’t seem as great as you’re implying because at least the game will most likely be fixed with an accessible patch these days. You’d have to do a lot more work to get one before or completely wasted your money in rare cases.
Also usually publishers set the release date, though in this case I’m not sure if it was in house or not so may not be a point, though you called out developers so figured I’d add it in.
Just wanted to comment that land vehicles have their purpose because take off in the ship takes a noticeable amount of fuel (though not as bad as it used to be) It’s not bad but you can drive around to get resources in vehicle much easier (assuming you’re trying to explore a bit). Not saying you’re completely wrong or anything, once you get so far you rarely need to go resource gathering anyways.
Base building is kinda fun if you’re into it (plus you get to build the inside of your freighter like a base) and there’s lots of missions and a decent chunk of story somewhere in there. It’s pretty shallow but more like a wading pool than a puddle at least. It’s fun to relax with and wander but I tend to lose interest before I can find the new ships and all so haven’t even got a living ship yet had it since release.
Huh 1943 was still up, was a nice remake from what I recall. I understand the whole shutting down games sucks but this list isn’t highly played I assume. No offense meant to those who play it, and it does suck when agame you want to play goes down. I had the opposite issue where servers were up but no one played with Shadowrun (Xbox 360)
With current battlefield you can at least mostly play Bad Company, and I assume golf has something current. But yeah sucks in it’s way but free servers and blah blah blah.
Then run up to them, catch them by surprise so you get a free turn to close the distance, there are options but it is tactically oriented. Also turn down the difficulty is an option, nothing lost by playing on an easier difficulty. If you’re in range with a melee character they should get a reaction when an enemy runs away which gives basically a free attack action. I haven’t progressed far but it feels like an expected difficulty at normal. Not saying normal is easy but you’re only expected to do a few encounters before resting so your casters can perform well.
I started the game a few times in early access, though I saw it in YouTube playthroughs never made it to the underdark, mostly wandered around and saw a new patch soon so went on to other games. Just started again and was surprised how short they made the initial ship area, unless I did something odd, it’s quite short compared to beta and highly appreciated. Played some of DOS2 and this game is a noticably a more developed product. Not to say DOS2 was bad or anything, for those that may ponder picking it up, very similar overall but this feels like a DnD game for sure. I’d say it’s a proper successor to the original Baldurs Gates, though never made it too far so I think it’s a plus if they got the feeling that early.
By that do you mean it autosaves often and many autosaves, and you have to prepare to figure out the autosave you need? I’m not really sure the difference meant but that’s all I can think of compared to current games. Though if so I’d add, you get to pick how many autosaves it will do so you can increase / decrease as needed.
Also as someone who played 90s and previous older RPGs having multiple autosaves rocks, there weren’t always multiple autosaves so you tended to reload back to your manual save and try again from that point. Save scumming wasn’t considered a bad thing way back when, just how you’d figure out the hard stuff heh.
It’s quite different from both in the way that the skills can have position mechanics for some like backstab (rogue class, least I am pretty sure they can backstab), or persuade/intimidate to sway conversant to your objective, but still xcom related in the way that each character has a turn where they can do a variety of multiple things in a turn. Diablo is only similar in that it has skills but an extremely different paced game. Positioning is important for spells, unless I am misremembering, because AOE in DnD doesn’t care who’s in the area, so you don’t want to cast fireball when your party members are within the area.
Turn actions are broken down into their own categories like action / quick action (*later edit, bonus action when reading abilities/spells) which each has their own amount of (though usually a similar amount but after some levels some classes can hit/attack multiple times, this is needed for martial classes). The combat is turn related once started but you can often get characters into positions before starting combat (this may need stealth for some because once certain enemies see you they start combat). There is a bigger emphasis on role playing (conversation) choices in the game that can impact encounters, either with the current conversant or down the line. Certain actions like getting caught stealing will impact things too CRPGs are their own genre, have more in common with other Larian games (divinity original sin) or games like Pathfinder, and of course the older DnD games. The rules takes some knowledge and getting used to but not overly difficult, you can download a free edition of the DnD 5th editions rules which may help too(not 100% accurate but close enough). If you have friends I think you’ll enjoy playing with them as you figure out your strategies from battle to conversations but it’s a slower paced game. Just don’t ignore things that can boost out of combat abilities to persuade (skill) or stealth that can give other opportunities while playing, though you can probably just play a murder everyone party if it works for you.
If you enjoy a quicker paced game though this isn’t your game is all, it’s slow and there can be a lot of time spent checking chests, talking and wandering. If you enjoy story and some tactical combat this is a good choice in my opinion.
Edit: forgot to add, party composition (classes) makes a big difference, you probably don’t want a group of 4 of one class as each class has it’s niche, but doesn’t mean it’s undoable may just be more difficult.
Later edit: I said quick action, but it’s a actually bonus action, helpful for when reading the text, hopefully nobody was confused.
I bet the huddle sections would … have more code and or animations than most football games.
