r/PiratedGames is the way to go for offline/single player games

For multiplayer games, I always try to get better deals on sites like Instant Gaming

Epic Games also offers paid titles for free, many of them are garbage though and I absolutely hate Epic Games

Another reason to never ever touch any Facebook services and to block their shitty privacy-invasive ads

On a separate note, I still don’t understand how trackpoints on HP laptops work. There’s no scroll button, how the fuck am I supposed to use this piece of shit if I can’t scroll??? The thing that is meant to replace the mouse/trackpad for ease of use and ergonomics literally forces me to use a mouse or a trackpad. This doesn’t make any fucking sense!!!

Use Invidious or Piped in combination with LibRedirect in order to automatically redirect all YouTube links to Invidious or Piped.

That’s why we need to switch away from this proprietary garbage and use Firefox or LibreWolf (Firefox on steroids with less bloat, improved privacy and even pre-installed uBlock Origin)

Google hardware actually gives you the most freedom, no other Android phone allows you to install a custom operating system, relock the bootloader and use Android Verified Boot, which is a fundamental part of the Android security model, with a custom signing key defined by the custom OS. It also includes the Titan M2 secure element which gives you great security through features like Android StrongBox, the Weaver API and it even has Insider Attack Resistance meaning Google, even if they get a court order to do so, can’t comprise the Titan M. Firmware can only be loaded to the chip after proper user authentication. Yes, it’s a little ironic, but Google hardware gives you the most freedom over your device.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/8489908 > How big tech generated billions in fines... then didn't pay them::Rarely a month goes by without big tech companies getting fined for price fixing, squashing competitors or misusing data, but it can take years before they pay a penny.

Use GrapheneOS with F-Droid or Obtanium, that’s the only way to actually get some freedom on a mobile device nowadays…

The best thing about Android and Google Pixel phones is the fact that you can remove all Google spyware. Check out GrapheneOS, it’s probably the only version of Android that offers the same level of security as an iPhone while not compromising on privacy. It also gives you the opportunity to learn a lot about Android and how it works. I recommend you to read through their documentation on the website, I find it interesting and fascinating. If you prefer a video, I recommend this one.

It’s literally Chinese government spyware

Use GrapheneOS and avoid tracking and data collection of any kind, free yourself from Google and other Big Tech companies and use open source software to guarantee your personal privacy and security.

Freedom > Performance

Also, no one should be using outdated, unpatched, insecure Android 7

I think you mean LibRedirect? I use it too, but many people don’t and it’s just better to have Piped or Nitter links.

You guys bookmark that stuff? Anyway, you can create a separate profile in your browser for that.

Yeah. Some Android Custom ROMs ship Aurora instead of the Play Store. I try to get all of my apps from F-Droid, but when something isn’t available there and I can’t get it through Obtanium, I go with Aurora.

You know that basically every modern browser has a Private mode or Incognito mode or something like that, right?

It pulls everything (apps, metadata, search results, etc.) directly from Google Play. It’s entirely free and open source and recommended by almost everyone in the Android and privacy community, so yes, it’s definitely legit.

No one on the fucking planet should be using this shitty browser anyway. Fuck Chrome, fuck everything that’s Chromium-based and fuck Google and their attempts to build a monopoly on browser engines so they can blast everyone with ads and extend their surveillance network. Use a proper browser with support for proper ad-blockers like Firefox or Mull or LibreWolf on Desktop.

You can use the Aurora Store, it’s basically the Google Play store but without the annoying ads.

I know, Grayjay is on the list. I don’t use it myself though, I prefer LibreTube for Android and Piped on desktop.

But it requires you to use the proprietary YouTube app that collects and sells all of your data

Might not be as privacy-friendly as other options though

That’s why I didn’t put it on the list. Also, sideloading on iOS is just a terrible experience. You either need to connect your phone to a computer every 7 days, otherwise your sideloaded apps will become unusable, or you can pay Apple $100/year for a developer subscription, so you can use your already overpriced device the way you want to. The best option is to avoid the problem entirely and get an Android phone, preferably a Google Pixel, and then install GrapheneOS on it and sideload F-Droid and LibreTube. This gives you actual freedom, as well as the highest levels of privacy and security you can get on a smartphone.

FOSS/FLOSS is all about empowering users and allowing them to do whatever they want, whereas proprietary software tries to take power away from the user. It’s kinda sad that many people don’t understand this.

LibreTube and self-hosted Piped server is working really well for me.

I use the same stuff, it’s awesome.

It requires the proprietary YouTube app that collects all of your data whereas all the apps and services I listed are free and open source as well as privacy-respecting.

For Android, LibreTube seems to be the best solution. You can also try NewPipe. On desktop, you can use FreeTube and if you want a reliable ad-blocking solution, it’s best to switch to a browser that actually supports proper adblockers. MV2, the API used to block ads is not available in Chrome or Chromium-based browsers, so if you want proper adblocking, use Firefox or LibreWolf with uBlock Origin. Alternative frontends for YouTube like Piped or Invidious are also an option, you can use them in combination with LibRedirect to automatically redirect any YouTube link to the frontend of your choice.
