Played from 2020 to around the end of 2022, already did all of the rebalance stuff since Rebecca became design lead. I really cannot go back. I beat it. It’s done. Regardless of the new frames, etc – I’m out of that “cycle” now. I’m mastery rank L2 if I am remembering correctly. No matter how much content they release - they’ll never release enough of it for me to want to return. I conquered Warframe. Legendary 2 rank. Most people don’t even reach MR15 before they crash out. Once I had everything in the game, it was done for me. Permanently.
Warframe. I spent 2 years around 2020 farming up every frame, every item, every pet, every everything – without spending a dime. I was so grateful for the experience I spent nearly $300 in cosmetics when I finished the game.
They’re always adding more stuff, but I consider Warframe “beat”. It was a killer experience, I had a lot of fun with all the different builds and overpowered shit you could pull off if you were smart. Along with Path of Exile, Warframe stands a pinnacle of how to do Free to Play correctly.
I also did a “No Engram” run on ARK: Survival Ascended – You’re not allowed to learn any of the things you can build; you HAVE to find the items naturally in the world. That was a nightmare, but I managed it – and will NEVER do it again. It gave me new appreciation for specific aspects of the game.
Bro, GhatGPT wrote a better apology:
Dear Community,
Look, we know we sell little plastic figures—not games, not platforms, not anything remotely digital—but somehow, we’ve managed to trip over our own shoelaces and knock something precious to all of you right off the shelf. Yes, we’re talking about itch.io, and yes, we understand the gravity of what happened.
We’re not going to sugarcoat it: we messed up. We’re not entirely sure how the dominoes fell this way, but somehow, through a series of unfortunate events (and probably some poorly-thought-out legal maneuvers), our actions have impacted an entire community that thrives on creativity and passion. That was never our intention, and it’s not who we want to be.
The truth is, we’re sitting here staring at our little figures, wondering how something so small can lead to such a big screw-up. We know this affects you, and we’re genuinely sorry for the frustration, confusion, and anger we’ve caused.
We don’t expect forgiveness overnight, but please know we’re working hard to make this right. We’re talking to the people who actually know what they’re doing (because, let’s face it, we clearly don’t), and we’re committed to doing better moving forward.
We value this community more than you realize, even if we’ve done a poor job of showing it. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you’ll give us the chance to earn back your trust—not just with our figures, but with our actions.
WoW, CS 1.6, Warframe, and ARK
I think something like 5k hours into Warframe, 15 years into WoW (at least 2 of my characters have 1+ year of playtime–so 17k hours just on those 2; and I max-leveled every class of character up until Battle for Azeroth) and so far, 2 years into ARK. Just over 3.5k hours of playtime between ASE and ASA.
I don’t think people understand that Valve also is going to own this space because of all the work they’ve done on Linux, them not being a trash company to their users (though, THAT bar is low).
So this is going to be very much a “Raspberry Pi” type of situation where - yeah, you can buy better SBC’s than a Raspberry Pi; but everyone buys the Pi because it’s got a lot of developer backing and an amazing ecosystem.
It’s not really the number of companies that determines this, but rather the lack of any real competition. A small enough number of companies makes this more likely, so there’s not likely a hard number of say…over 5 companies isn’t an oligopoly, they can still be - so long as they’re all focused on each other. If you see 1 company raise it’s prices and all 4 others do too, then it’s still an oligopoly. Because even though they aren’t actively getting together, and saying “hey let’s all raise our prices!”, (collusion) - the effect is the same.
It ceases to be that when barriers to entry don’t stop new competition from entering, and competition is active. (at least, that’s the simplified answer; there’s some more nuance to it, but that should at least give an overall understanding)
I’m complaining about the lack of something real ever happening to these companies. Just because you’re too ignorant to understand what is(n’t) going on here, doesn’t mean that I’m complaining just for the sake of it.
Duopolys aren’t any better than Monopolies, except for the illusion of choice. They’ll move lock-step in line with one another, just like duopolys do, they’ll still use the same anticompetitive practices, but instead of getting fucked by one dick, now you’re getting fucked by two.
I’m glad you like being fucked so much that you’re rejoicing over this news, but I’d rather there be real competition.
What steam brought to the table was the first content delivery network for games. Digital Marketplaces were not a thing when Steam launched, and most software was still sold on store shelves. They are reliable, and customer friendly - that’s why no other content delivery network has gotten any kind of foothold, because competitors consistently create platforms that are more difficult to navigate and screw customers over shortly after their launch by removing content or having some sort of major rights-issue.
Steam Workshop and Steam Community market account for almost nothing in the grand scheme of what makes Valve its money.
They have spent tons on developing the tools to play games on Linux through Proton, and have shown themselves to be enthusiasts themselves when it comes to supporting gamers with some of the more robust VR systems as well.
If you’re impatient, no. Most of the “grind” was starting a crafting job, and waiting 72 hours for it to complete.
Unfortunately everyone wants instant gratification and Warframe is not an instant-gratification game.
What I did was work on things bit by bit, and when I started crafting it - I moved onto farming something else.
Some of the worst items to get in the game, I had to wait a year before they ‘unvaulted’ the relics for. Other things, I had to log in daily for over a year before they would become available as login rewards.
So – I repeat – If all you care about is instant gratification, Warframe is not for you. Unless you have deep pockets. Their monetization scheme is “If you don’t want to wait on this thing, pay up”. For people who are patient, this is wonderful.
