The real strength of current foldables, and why I love mine, is it’s ability to multitask at a moment’s notice. I really like being able to open it up and have each side used for a different thing. I also like holding it like a book-like ereader.

It’s also unmatched as an emulator for ds games, which I value a lot! Maybe those things aren’t for everyone, but the form factor really suits some stuff that I like to do frequently on my phone

They should go after Rockstar for the mechanic of throwing a rope at an animal to catch it, if this is the criteria. Ridiculous.

Ooh, yeah, Talos Principle! Perfect rec for someone who loved Nier and Portal. I haven’t played the sequel yet, but really really enjoyed the first game. I agree about some of the puzzles, though.

For you, a little extra spoiler: the next ending also isn’t the end, there’s a lot more. I will admit that playing the second run is a big grindy at first, but it quickly differentiates itself from your first run by the time you get to the first boss. Also, in the second run, the side quests are crucial.

An extra-extra spoiler: there’s a lot to dig your teeth into, philosophically, that makes the whole rigmarole worth it.

Yeah, gamer gate was one of the things that lead to Trump being elected in the first place. Plus the outcry that still happens when BIPOC, LGBT, or women protagonists are used. Hell, just look at any steam discussion board sometime and you’ll see it.

As someone who games, gAmERs are the fucking worst

If you’re looking for a more schlocky horror experience, give Resident Evil 8 a try! Extremely fun to play with a story that would be kinda ‘eh’ if the performances didn’t elevate it to cult-following b-movie perfection.

Subnautica would be a good game to transition from the end of summer to the beginning of fall. Spooky atmosphere where you play (almost) entirely underwater.

Crow Country came out earlier this year and definitely capitalizes on PS1 era horror games. In that vein also, Signalis is an excellent cerebral sci-fi horror.

Horror comedies are definitely a thing, but tbh I’d still consider Alan Wake 2 an outright horror even with the lighter stuff! Very spooky elements, with great writing and story crafting. Bonus points if you play Remedy’s other games for the Easter eggs

None of the others are as good as Until Dawn, imo, unfortunately :(

I keep hoping, but no joy every time

Holy shit, by bringing this site to my attention I think you may have ruined my life, but fuck it. I’m going in.

Very cool question!!

-The Long Dark: I have hundreds of hours in this game across various platforms (maybe even a thousand-plus, all together?) and with the different settings to play with to change the difficulty in really interesting ways, I think I could easily sink another thousand. I’ll leave the DLC behind, though, thanks.

-Red Dead Redemption 2: My favorite game of all time, even just as a cowboy-themed hunting and poker sim. If Baldur’s Gate 3 and the stupid Guarma chapter didn’t exist, I’d say it would be a slamdunk for best game of all time, period. I’m not autistic, but if I had a special interest, this would be it; it literally inspired my son’s name.

-Elden Ring: In five years, maybe I could just figure out how to solo Malenia without cheesing my build, much less the final boss of the DLC :')

Nier is an interesting choice. After the first (complete) playthrough, I have never felt the need to revisit—except to make my husband play it.

Idk why the tv show would have gotten them any grace? As far as I know, all they did was let the property be bought and used by Amazon. Todd Howard executive produced, but that’s not saying much. The show has nothing to do with them as a studio. They just lucked into a team who had something interesting planned with the IP.

The Skyrim releases will continue until morale improves.

-Todd Howard

Welp that one is on me for browsing before coffee. I thought we were in the Elden Ring community

I don’t wanna look too much, but boy does seeing actual gameplay footage make it feel so real! I’m pretty hyped

You might want to check out a different community then 😊

Do you know if the Pixel Fold handle GrapheneOS okay? I have the surface Duo 2 right now, and was looking for a replacement, but really have grown to love the dual screen. So this could be my answer if the foldability doesn’t interfere with a new OS!

Amazing comment, thank you. Saving it for future use :)

I wonder if that will be at all improved with the new model coming out? I do like that Kobo doesn’t have ads on its home screen, as well; I’d probably be willing to put up with less optimal performance if that stays the case. Anyway, thank you for the response! It’s definitely given me stuff to consider before buying an e reader myself

I know nothing about this topic, but was thinking of grabbing a Kobo. What about the software would you say is meh?

Sorry, I haven’t made the jump into an e reader of my own yet, so I may be missing something, but could the same not be said for phones and B&W e readers? Phones can basically do everything an e reader can on its face, but there’s still a niche to be filled by e readers, so I’m not sure lack of demand would exactly be the problem?

Too bad Starfield wasn’t that, either, and Fallout 4 as well as 76 before it. Elder Scrolls 6 is gonna be a shitshow unless something drastic changes for the better at Bethesda. I don’t see that happening, though, since they’ve been busy since their last release trying to convince everyone that didn’t like Starfield that they’ve just been playing the game wrong.

PowerPak is good at covering the steam next fests, picking out worthwhile demos to keep an eye on.

Funnily enough, what that review said is basically what I said in my review about chants of shenaar, except without the glowing praise. Lots of tedious running across maps and very surface level language-puzzling, whereas I don’t remember any tedium with heaven’s vault at all. I guess different strokes for different folks?

I would say, it’s such a unique and well-executed concept that I would give it a play yourself to see what you think. It’s one of those games I haven’t found a replacement for, even with chants of shenaar.

If you liked chants of shenaar, check out heaven’s vault. I think it does what chants of shenaar does, but better, and it did it years before. It was a bit strange to me to see chants of shenaar get so much hype, but have heaven’s vault stay slept on.

I think it’s less them and more their parent company Bandai Namco setting the price model

I like how their example of “moral nuance and gray areas” is just a binary choice lmao. Baldur’s Gate 3 has really ruined how I view this whole genre. I don’t know if it’s sadder for me, or companies that clearly weren’t/aren’t willing or prepared to swing at that level of nuance.

If assholes wanna play a boring game to own the libs, then that’s on them, lmao. Similar to them buying barbie and bud light shit just to set it on fire when they are mad

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like this! I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I also hit a wall in act 3. I love the game and all it has to offer, but I feel like so much was crammed into act 3 that it just felt really dense. I hate to use the word ‘slog’, because it’s obvious that everything has had a lot of thought and care put into it, but in that way maybe it’s just too much all at once?

I remember being lost as to which act was which as I got closer to being 40 hours in, and still wasn’t sure what act I was in. Turns out, that’s still act one and they are very clear when the next act starts :)

Happy playing!

Hey, starfield isn’t my favorite by far, but I don’t think it’s that serious lol. It’s just a silly game award that everyone’s gonna forget about in a few weeks

I’m hoping it was just a bunch of kids trolling bc they thought it was funny

I think this one is also pretty well known as a beloved cult classic lol

If anyone thinks they won’t, then they haven’t been paying attention since fallout 4’s release. Then fallout 76’s release. And now this. No way elder scrolls doesn’t shit the bed in 20 years, or whenever it’s coming out.
