I read that by the time MS acquired Tango and Hi-Fi Rush was released, most of the developers and management had already quit, so MS basically only owned the IP anyway. Tango allegedly had nothing in the pipeline, and the few people who were left were working on nothing, and there were no leads to start the process of developing a new game.
Not sure how true it is, but in that case it would make some sense to just shut down the studio, because the alternative would be essentially starting a studio from scratch.
Of course, this begs the question of why all these developers left. I can speak from experience a bit here. When it was announced that a small company I worked for was acquired by a mega corporation, everyone quit because the company we were being acquired by had a reputation of being a horrible, toxic workplace. This is obviously just speculation, but I could see something similar happening here.
Different strokes, I suppose. I have never cared for graphics in a game. I don’t care today, I didn’t care when I was playing Super Mario World as a kid. I care far more about gameplay, tight controls, and later in life I started caring more about good narrative. The best looking game in the world wouldn’t keep my attention if the controls felt like garbage, or if the gameplay was just plain boring.
The last time I paid for a Windows license was around 2012. I bought a Windows 8 Pro license for $40. I have been using the same one ever since, and it has never given me an issue. I even used it on a few friends’ PCs.
My laptop is Linux, but my desktop is still Windows 10. My work laptop is Windows 11, and I even used Windows 11 on my desktop for about 6 months before I decided to wipe it and go back to 10. I have given Windows 11 a very fair chance, but when Windows 10 goes EOL, I will be migrating my desktop to Linux as well.
I just find things like modding games much easier with Windows rather than having to jump through a bunch of hoops to get them working in proton. Hopefully they can improve that in the next year before I switch.
I have started pirating heavily again after years of not doing it. I set up a VPN container and a qbittorrent container that shares the VPN container’s network, so VPN is always running for qbittorrent, but it isn’t affecting the rest of my server. Then I log into a webpage on my local network and download whatever I want. The volume mount I chose for the download directory is my Plex directory, so it automatically gets put on Plex.
It’s honestly easier to pirate than to search for which streaming service something is on. When I pirate, everything is in the same place.
Oh yikes. That sucks. I mean, I don’t mind the internet connection. I always have one. But the season pass is not a good omen, unless it is just for the DLC when it comes out, like how games were 10 years ago. But I feel like it hasn’t meant that in a long time. Also, Ubisoft doesn’t have a good track record.
You haven’t had to rescue Zelda much in the past 25 years.
In Ocarina of Time, Zelda was a badass ninja warrior that was constantly helping you.
In Majora’s Mask, Zelda didn’t appear.
In Wind Waker, Zelda was the leader of a gang of pirates. She had their respect and undying loyalty despite all being twice her size, because of her toughness and bravery. IIRC she actually kills Gannon in this one by bouncing an arrow off Link’s shield.
I don’t remember Twilight Princess enough to speak on that one, tbh.
In Skyward Sword, you think you’re saving Zelda, but she’s actually totally fine the whole time. She’s working with a Sheikah to restore seals to prevent Demise from returning.
In BotW, Zelda is fighting Gannon for 100 years (!!!) to buy time while Link sleeps and then later cooks food in his underwear.
In TotK, Zelda makes the ultimate sacrifice, trading her humanity to give Link a chance to beat Ganondorf. She makes herself immortal, but trades away her individuality and ability to think. She spends eternity crying because of what she lost to give Hyrule hope. I think she’s particularly brave in this one.
Zelda has not been a damsel in distress for a very, very long time. Both Zelda and Link play critical roles in saving Hyrule. Their roles are just different. Link saves Hyrule with a sword. Zelda saves Hyrule in other ways. Their roles are different but equally necessary.
I eventually stopped played RS3 because I was really frustrated with the slow pace of development. They would constantly announce new features only to cancel them years later because they were too hard to implement. Their excuse was always that the engine was too old.
This new game has a completely new engine. It doesn’t have 20+ years of tech debt. It (hopefully) isn’t held together by rubber bands and paperclips like RuneScape is.
I’m seriously distraught. I’m normally not the kind of person that cares when famous people die, but it’s so upsetting to think about the huge hole that will be left behind. No one can do what he does. No one can replace him. He was still working on Dragon Ball. We will never get more Toriyama content for Dragon Ball. The last time they tried doing Dragon Ball without him, it was GT.
Toriyama was probably the most influential manga author/artist of all time. He made a massive impact on my life. My wife and I bonded early over our love for Dragon Ball, so it’s a very important part of our relationship. We have traveled far and wide to meet the voice actors (bother English and Japanese) at conventions so many times. We have SO many things signed by the voice actors. So much our lives have revolved around Dragon Ball.
AND THAT’S JUST DRAGON BALL. He worked on so many other things.
Thank you for all you have done for me, Toriyama.
It already went on sale once, but it wasn’t a very low sale. I think that’s a good sign that it won’t be too long before it drops to decent a price.
It had an amazing story, but the visual glitches were constant. Luckily I didn’t run into any glitches that actually affected gameplay. But the visual glitches really broke immersion.
I just got 100% on Nier Automata, and I only loved it more as I played it more. Usually I hate any grinding in any game and will either skip any content that requires grinding, use mods to bypass it, or just put down the game and move on to another one. But the whole game just felt so damn good. I could just walk around for hours doing nothing because the movement felt so good.
There was quite a bit of grinding, but I didn’t find any of it too bad. I got 100% in about 50 hours, which is my sweet spot. Any longer and I feel like the game is dragging on.
