I was planning on playing it after finishing Control. I just learned through an expansion that Alan Wake was related and I never played.

Maybe that’ll give a good reason for game companies to start developing games natively for Linux.

Maybe, but they provide the software without DRM and with the option to get an offline installer.

(I just learned Steam does that as well apparently but with extra steps.)

Interesting. I’ll check that out. There’s a few games I would like to keep a backup of just in case.

Sorry. I just got so, so fed up with Microsoft’s bull shit recently that I just went ahead and got rid of it.

I’ve been dreaming about this possibility for 20 years now and it’s finally doable.

They had something really good with Windows 10 but over time they made it worse and worse. Adding “features” nobody wants each update like Copilot and advertisements.

Also Windows 10 was supposed to be a rolling release and the last Windows we’d ever install. Then Windows 11 came out and it’s the worst Windows OS they have ever made in my opinion, and that’s including Win ME.

My comment, even if it didn’t bring anything to the conversation, I think reflects that a lot of technical users on here have started doing. Migrating to Linux and laughing at the problems that Microsoft keeps creating for their users.

Oh cool! I didn’t know they went that far.

I’m buying from GOG from now on.

So if I download a pirate copy, I’m in the clear because I purchased a license.

Doesn’t GOG provide the games without copy protection? Doesn’t that mean you can actually back up your installed games?

In any case, these services should allow their customers to download a digital copy of an ISO or an installable package of the game so it can be saved as a backup and installed independently.

I also found Death Stranding to be weird.

It’s like… Death coming ashore?

I mean I get that it’s about this whole concept of people having their own beach when they die or being able to travel to other people’s beaches or something weird like that. But they’re really pushing it with that title.

And also the fact that Death end with ‘th’ followed by a word starting with ‘s’ makes it really difficult to pronounce.

Hahaha a few come to mind from the NES and SNES era.

“Hey punk! Are you TUFF-E-NUFF?” comes to mind.

Edit: was missing the first part of the title. Thanks for pointing it out! 👍

That looks freaking amazing. I’ll have to try it out.

Edit: Tried the demo. It’s damn impressive. But it seems you’re not alone. I saw a ladder getting pulled into a hole high up in the wall.

When the reality is you grow up to be a wage slave whose salary can’t even afford you a shelter to live in and you don’t get any gratitude or progress in any helpful way in your career and you can’t even enjoy any open space without having to pay a price, why even participate in this society?

Ah last in the games you have freedom. You progress. You get recognition. You can afford things.

Absolute GOAT of all RPGs without a doubt.

Oh I’ve been using Linux for over 20 years. That’s not an issue.

I have a better idea now of what an immutable distro is thanks to your explanation. I don’t know if that’s what I would want after all.

I think I prefer the freedom of being able to modify my system files and configs as I need to customize my system as I see fit, even if it meansb potentially breaking something.

What parts of the immutable OS are read only? Like filesystem wise? I’m not sure I really get it.

That seems like a solid OS. It’s there an Ubuntu based variant?

Oh yeah! I used to play Unreal Tournament every day for hours. Also played Wolfenstein Enemy Territory a lot in the past.

Nowadays these games just don’t appeal to me anymore.

So what? I still enjoy it. And that’s what matters.

Yeah man! Just punch a bunch of trees and then build a shack out of the wood.

You can build your own house in Minecraft! Or own your own home in the Sims!

How did you get to that preference dialogue? I’m dumb.

I found how to do it. Yeah you can totally disable the floating feature. It’s much better.

Just to get back to you, I installed it as well and I was surprised how fast it ran.

I couldn’t change the resolution in the VM however. It would only give me a black screen. So I was stuck with a basic small resolution.

I also noticed that you can’t change the taskbar style from floating to fully a docked taskbar that takes up all the space without gaps. That’s a shame in my opinion. But as soon as you open an application window, it does take that “no gap” shape.

I tried a couple recently using qemu. It ran pretty smoothly.
