People here mostly seem to vote on basis of who they think the commenter is - not what they’re saying.

It’s easy to say as someone with a healthy brain. A blind, deaf or a paralyzed person might feel different once there truly is a way to get your sight back with this technology.

I wonder what you guys thought animal testing is about, if this is somehow surprising to you. This is just another day at the office for the people running these experiments. The issue is not “Elon doing animal testing” but animal testing in itself.

However - if you think we shouldn’t do it then you should also be aware of the tradeoffs. Without this cruelty there’s no modern medicine either. Also, if you complain about this but eat meat then you’re a hypocrite.

What is the difference exactly? It’s both animal testing. It’s going to be cruel by its very nature. They’re testing on animals because they’re not allowed to test on humans. If they could they would.

Everyone here acting like this is all black and white. Without animal testing there’s no modern medicine. That is a choise we could have made but didn’t. Thousands of animals had to suffer so that millions of people would not. From an utilitairian point of view it’s a no-brainer but it’s still cruel as fuck and there’s no getting around that. Animal testing or no - both leads to individuals suffering unecessarily.

I, for one aren’t willing to take the moral high ground here, because I eat meat ie. take part in the chicken/pig holocaust.

Considering that I get a few new bot followers every day, and has been for probably over a year now, but my total follower count isn’t increasing much, I’m quessing they’re indeed removing these accounts, but new ones just keep popping up. That would pretty much be on par with why he says he’s going to start charging for it.

I didn’t really have an opinion on the Israel/Palestine conflict or about Netanyahu as a person before he was a quest on Lex Fridman’s podcast. He seemed like an extremely disingenuous person, with obviously very politician answers to the questions presented to him. That made me, for the first time, to look into what this conflict is about and though it’s still quite nuanced, my view however isn’t especially favourable to Israel now.

Tubeless tires solves that issue aswell. You can drive over nails and the sealant inside the tire automatically plugs the hole.

Thanks for keeping me up with the latest on Twitter and Elon Musk. I don’t know how I even managed to live back when I went for months without thinking about either of these two.

I refuse to buy a phone without a headphone jack but in my experience wired earbuds last about 9 months while my cheap JBL 110bt bluetooth buds are still going strong after more than 5 years of almost daily use. The battery still lasts about 7 hours.

For dead tech they sure do sell a shit ton of dongles

I generally edit my photos with photoshop but if I must do it with my phone I’m going to use Snapseed

I might switch from index funds to stock picking if I’m too able to get my money back for every bad investment I make

How are they going to know what to recommend if they have no idea what you’re interested in?

I’m genuinely surprised how many people don’t like youtube recommendations. It works really well for me

I could but it’s quite niche community I hang in which is not present here. I’m not active on twitter either but when I feel like posting something that’s where I go to

If he bans adult content or something then I just move elsewhere. Now I just mute everything unrelated in my feed and mark as “not intereste” for all irrelevant suggestions. So far it seems to work well enough

I only post pictures on twitter. I don’t engage in conversations. Ever. That’s what reddit and now Lemmy is for.

I absolutely have not said that

EDIT: apparently I did say that. Don’t know why but I fixed it now

What are you arguing for exactly? Because if it’s that social media is not important then I 100% agree with you but what does that have to do with leaving Twitter for Mastodon?

Yeah I’m sorry but that’s just not true. Mastodon has 7 million users and Twitter has 400 million. It took me a literal decade to build the following I now have on twitter. That’s not easy to replace and frankly I don’t even see why I should.

That’s what the agument essentially boils down. I’m having a good time there but people still keep telling me I should leave. Personally I encounter significantly more toxic behaviour on Lemmy compared to Twitter. I’m still here too.

All the people you know on twitter are also on mastodon.

Yeah that’s simply just false

Well I just don’t feel like you not liking twitter is a good enough reason for me to leave the platform.

Almost none of the people I follow on Twitter are on Mastodon and almost none of the people that follow me are there either. I’m not on Twitter because of the platform. I’m there because of the people on that platform. My strictly curated feed haven’t changed during the past few years no matter how hard people here are trying to convince me that Twitter has gone to shit. Maybe for you it has but I can’t relate. What ever Elon is doing happens in a corner of Twitter I’m not spending my time on.

It’s also the only platform where I’ve managed to grow any kind of following. It’s much nicer posting my content somewhere people actually see it unlike on places like Instagram which is just shouting into the void. The only change I’ve made is switch from the Flamingo app to browser because they killed 3rd party apps just like reddit.

This is hilarious. Not only are they only shutting down all but four of their biggest Twitter accounts it’s also not even the company people are thinking about. This is literally news about nothing happening and people are still riled up. Well done OP. I love it.

I disagree. Spotify and YouTube are the only platforms that actually do a good job recommending me content I’m interested in. Other places like instagram, twitter and lemmy needs heavy curation to be usable.

It’s a steaming pile of garbage. When I click “maps” I’m expecting a map to open up. With google maps I’m faced with all kinds of menus and shit I never asked for that I need to start clicking away to uncover the map underneath.

I see them as every way inferior to normal phones. I don’t get why they’re popular.

Yeah I agree that with a platform of this size it comes with huge responsibility aswell knowing your words have a real world consequences. Maybe that’s the explanation to the widespreat hate. People much worse than him generally don’t shitpost on social media so we’re not thinking about them

I genuinely don’t know what started all this. He used to be quite popular person but then something changed and seemingly everyone started hating him. I couldn’t explain why and thus my question.

Well he’s clearly a jerk who doesn’t know when he should just stay silent but I guess this can partly be explained by the fact that he obviously has some form of autism/asberger or something.

I just don’t see anything that major in there. I can think of several worse people who don’t seem to be getting this level of hate so I find it curious what it is about Musk then that he does.

What’s the top three worst things Musk has done? I don’t really follow celebrity news so I’m a bit confused about why everyone seems to hate him all of a sudden. I’m genuinely asking

One thing I disagree with is the assumption that anyone could create the same article by themselves. Coming up with a good prompt is a skill in itself and not everyone is equally good at it. I actually believe a prompt writer is going to be a new profession in the near future.

I genuinely don’t get why people hate-follow these guys. If I don’t like someone I block them and move on. The last thing I want to do is talk about them all day every day with my friends and pat eachother on the back for being so smart ourselves.

10mbps 4G router for 20€/month in Finland

I have fibre too but it’s more expensive so I don’t see a reason to pay more when my current one works just fine too.

I bought a Samsung because it was the only device with a headphone jack and removable battery. I have zero brand loyality - I just go with whoever makes the best device
