I found the gameplay to be really fun and all of the base/soldier mechanics to be really ruining of said fun

agreed, one felt like an edgy young adult book you’d find on a shelf at the public library. Two had a lot of attitude and style and I loved it

Maybe im just unaccustomed to games similar to it but almost every single task, from hunting to fighting or just collecting clue/items felt like a constant chore. I remember just getting my ass pounded into the ground at every encounter. I couldnt even travel without getting ambushed and just dying instantly. Every story mission with combat was a monumental task to overcome and if you died you went back sometimes several hours. And dont get me started on the part where the game wanted me to commit several hours to roleplay being a monk.

ps I know im complaining (it’s my favorite thing to do) but I really did have a super good time with KCD, it was just also a frustrating time and im hoping the next one is at least as in-depth, if not a bit more approachable

The previous game is one of the most insanely frustrating experiences in gaming I have ever had. So much potential, such poor execution. I do have high hopes for this one, however.

is it spring? i have completely lost track of the flow of seasons at this point. Its like the game of thrones weather but every other day instead of every ten to twenty years

they had all the right ingredients but pigeonholed the combat stance mechanics too much. I wish they did the stances more like Nioh 1 & 2, it could have been amazing. Like fuck man I just want to use the wind stance kick on people without being interrupted with a tutorial message that never stops showing up trying to cajole me into using the “right stance”, fucking inane.

I think theyre just saying that this is a large aspect of analyzing the player base that was excluded from the article

I mean im on my ps5 every day, browse a ton of game related content on lemmy and such, and share a lot of game news with my friend group, and Ive literally never heard of or seen marketing for this game.

Its a really odd situation with the kingkiller books because they were such a massive influence on my childhood and now im in my 30’s just still waiting to find out what happens next

Agreed. I trust team cherry as HK is one of the greatest gaming experiences Ive ever had in my life but the lack of communication is tough. Same with Fromsoftware and Patrick Rothfuss lol please end my suffering pat

Yeah for real, its almost impressive to give them the storylines they had but make them just so boring compared to big K

I wont downvote you but you cant stop me from doing this: ☹️

I fucking love dead cells, it’s an awesome game and the devs are dope as fuck, always adding new shit even years later

When I try to play games on my pc i get terrible screen tearing and then a hellgate opens and the doomslayer has to come quell the uprising of demons so I am unfortunately confined to the dystopian hellscape that is modern console gaming until I magically become not poor

Turns out its part of the playstation network game thingy so I can try it out for (kinda) free!

I have never played this but I loved games like everspace and chorus, and a more sim-focused open-galaxy game seems sick. Is ED worth getting in to?

As funny as it may sound its dark souls 1/3 and elden ring for me

I mean I also want cheaper games but if gtav and skyrim still sell for upwards of $40 or $50 then elden ring should be at least that much lol

I doubt it was the literal first game I played, but Ghouls n’ Ghosts for the sega genesis was my favorite as a kid, with sonic 2 as a VERY close second

well to their credit, there is plenty of evidence that their plan could work. Look at star citizen or no man’s sky.

Ill preface with the fact that overall I think it’s more than worth your time, and is one of the greatest works of fiction ever made. That being said, it takes a little work to read as it is a VERY long series, and does a lot of worldbuilding. There is a point towards the middle where the “depth of field” of the story increases dramatically, and from my experience and my friend who has also read them, that is typically a burnout point. There isnt as much prose as in Tolkien’s works, though some of that is just cultural/temporal, but Robert Jordan was definitely in love with the story and takes the time to describe things fairly often. Im confident you’re likely to greatly enjoy the first three books and the last few books, but the middle could be a stumbling block.

Additionally, if you aren’t aware already, RJ passed away before the last book(s) could be finished and his wife arranged for Brandon Sanderson to collate all of the drafts and notes and conjure up a conclusion, which could definitely be something to consider. Personally, I was already a Brandon Sanderson fan before I read WoT, and I loved the ending.

One last thing, if you are deterred by the series or not ready to try it yet but still want a less-daunting rec, I love to recommend the Licanius Trilogy by James Islington. It is a reasonable length, it is one complete story, and it is just 🤌. End rant

edit: I forgot to mention that I am an audiobook-oriented person and greatly prefer them for the wheel of time. They’re narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, and they are EXCELLENT narrators.

True, very true. I just dont see them taking all the steps to roll out a ton of physical disks for old games

I am very pessimistic about that ever happening but i would love to be wrong. I dont think they have much incentive to make all those physical copies unfortunately

I dont know much about this topic, I just seem to recall a post on the front page of my lemmy app a while ago saying to NEVER use brave as it was a scam. Is there truth to this?

Finally got around to trying out Nioh, pretty fun game. Im probably playing it terribly but its still enjoyable. Stay away from ledges though

I had a solid month of beautifully smooth gameplay with essentially zero distracting or overt bugs, and then a solid month of what you are describing. YMMV I guess 🤷‍♂️

I believe I heard that some developers in CDPR were going on strike? Has anyone else heard about something like that?
