Is something like jmp.chat sort of close?

Look, I was a life long PlayStation kid from ps1 to the end of ps3. There is no reason in 2024 why anyone should be considering a PS or a Xbox or a Nintendo in a world where the steam deck exist. It blows traditional consoles right out of the water into the stratosphere.

Can’t wait for them do do it anyways and all the fans cave in because ‘muh social escapism’ gamers have some of the weakest spines, the most important point of boycotting g isn’t being loud and whiney its to NOT BUY THE PRODUCT FOR FUCKS SAKE.

theres a few BBS and aggregators on the gemini protocol with an atom feed. Gemini users tend to be a little more on the tech nerd side but theres some variety to be found.

Kiwi is the only android browser for me, being able to access all the standard desktop addons is game changing, like damn.

Imagepipe is both an excellent meta data scrubber and image compression tool that lets you find a good balance between image quality and size so you can send that picture you took through text or email within the 100kb data limit cap

  1. download F-droid appstore, all apps on there are open source which by nature reduces privacy concerns and if they do have features which impact privacy there will be a warning about what it does.
  2. search through a few of the keyboard apps and find one that catches your eye, preferably one still occasionally updated within past year I found one I liked and trust but don’t have my phone with me, think it was called ‘simple keyboard’ or something. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the reply, I was really tempted since it went for sale during the steam summer sale. My life circumstances are such that I can’t really justify the money on another game box. My switch still works, I have a decent laptop that can play many of my lower-hardware requirement games. I am currently doing off-grid living and that 600$ is better spent on survival necessities and quality of life improvements or just in my bank as emergency fund. If I were a teen again it would be a no-brainer but my time for gaming is less and less. Saying no to the deck this summer sale was one of the hardest and most responsible things i’ve ever done.

delisted all the unreal and unreal tournament games from all storefronts to reduce competition to fortnite. You can’t buy any unreal game legit anymore, either have to pirate or scrounge internet archive. For anyone who doesn’t know unreal was epicmegagames first flagship series, the one that printed the money for the foundation they sit on. Very dedicated fanbase and everything, and epic kills it. even the singleplayer campaigns.

I loved my switch at the beginning in 2017 but it being nintendcucked ruined it for me. Terrible sales/overpriced games, also I refuse to pay just to have multiplayer and their half assed emulators. Steam deck is a godsend, someday ill work up the courage to eat the 600$ on one or wait until steam deck 2/pro/ultra/the deckening

Epic is on a decline, never forget what they did to unreal. Also I really like when devs give the option to buy on itch.io and get a steam key with the drm free version. They get more money per sale and I get a drm free version and a steam version in one. Zortch and Dwarf Fortress are the only two games I know of to do this but would like to see more.

My current phone is going strong still and I dont spend more than 200$ on a phone period. Im pretty sure most foldable phones are still 500$+. Besides I like that my phone has a protective case in case of dropping and half of it is both scratch and impact resistant. With these folding phones they seem very fragile and scratch prone. I heard the glass over time gets creases but that was a while ago and they may have improved on that front.I had my fun with flip phones in the 2000s with tracphone, not really a new gimmick for me.

Unfortunately minetest devs would never allow such a guide on the official site. I would be happy to write up such a guide but unsure where else it could be put for people to easily find it. We have talked about porting mineclone2 as a standalone game to digital game distributor like itch.io or gog. Perhaps I can make a getting started YouTube video and submit it to the official mineclone2 channel.

Yes enable dynamic shading in settings and install the wield light mod to have holding a torch light up the surrounding area

Minetest is confusingly both a game engine and a playable game. You probably only ever played the basic sandbox game it comes with by default and thought that was it had to offer. There exist much more feature rich and developed games on the minetest engine. many many games and mods and texture packs.

You may be interested to know about the game ‘mineclone2’ developed on the minetest engine, which aims to be a faithful FOSS clone of minecraft specifically. I am actually a dev of mineclone2 and can tell you I believe that it is the next best thing to the real deal. A lot of hard work and time and polish has gone into the game by many talented people. Its not perfect, there are rough edges, some things still need work, but its a stable and faithful vanilla experience. Its far superior to minecraft in both performance and modability. Plus bugs are getting squashed and more features are getting added all the time both to mineclone2 and the minetest game engine.

Audacity used to be open source, several forks of it exist but easy to just download the last open source version of audacity (most Linux package managers will use this by default).

Minetest + mineclone2 = FOSS legally distinct minecraft
