Anthem and Andromeda were actually pretty good as bases to work off of. I truly believe Anthem could’ve succeeded in the stated mission of “Destiny Killer” if they had put work into making it good, building it into a good instanced MMO. Same with Andromeda - actually pretty good game that just had a rough start, and could’ve been great if the studio had put time and effort into DLC.
But the metric is never “how many people are actually saying this is a good game and they enjoy it”, it’s “did this literally smash every other game out there on release.”
Destiny? Assuming I’m in the Last City, things MIGHT be OK. If I’m not, assuming the season is the current timeline, there’s a short amount of time before the Shadow Legion captures me, some hangers-on from House Dusk kill me, the Red Legion (what’s left of it) kills me, or the Witness ends reality as we know it.
They also don’t stay in one place, and can just randomly show up in a place when you’re, say, doing stealthy stuff. Suddenly assassinating a whole outpost of orcs becomes “aww shit, Feldûsh is here, and he’s immune to stealth attacks” or '“oh no Roggvir just showed up, he’s riding a warg and so are the other 4 guys he pals around with”.
