This is a really interesting concept. What if developers had paid or ad supported official streams? Sure most people would block the ads or continue to watch their favorite streamer, but a non-zero amount of players might elect to watch the devs play the game in an effort to support them directly. And this would just be additive revenue compared to the zero they are getting right now on streams. It might even be synergistic as official advertisement for the game and as a way to connect directly to their community. I could see it also as a way to play a game but with director commentary on, similar to how movies do it.
Hi! I’m the lead mod over on [email protected]
I don’t have any issues with users posting lfg posts so long as personal identifying information is not publicly shared. Gamertag and screen names publicly shouldn’t be an issue I don’t think.
Of course, if you are looking for mainly PC gaming or a different console then this won’t help you much. We have a weekly, “what are you playing” pinned thread. Could be good to hop in there and see what others are playing and strike up a conversation and see if others are willing to team up.
I started it btw [email protected]
I vote for GoW, but if you are looking to snowball it, play TF2 first since the campaign is short but awesome! Then GoW. It’s decently long, but mostly linear. Then after that, probably Bioshock for similar reasons. Finish it off with Horizon, which can be as wide open as you want it to be, but you can also mainline the main quests to get a more streamlined story experience.
Also, I’m the lead mod over on [email protected] so come join us over there if you haven’t already!
With only one report so far, the completionist time on howlongtobeat.com puts it around 26.5 hours.
If this was PS5/PS4 streaming but with the ability to play PS3/2/1 games locally, it would kill for $200. And they wouldn’t fracture the PS5 development base, which they are obviously afraid of doing.
Hell, even some modern indie games that don’t use the full PS5 horsepower could have potentially make a PSPortal version for on-the-go gaming.
There is [email protected]
Time to put these cameras in movie theaters. Can’t be watching R rated films if under 17. Time for cameras on E readers, can’t be reading inappropriate material without regulatory consent. Time to take a photo of yourself, the new Travis Scott album just dropped, but headphones only there buddy. Can’t have anyone else listening to it unless they authenticate.
I would have, but unfortunately, the Mali situation does not afford me the luxury of time, as they could shut down the ML domain at any time, and they have already done so to another instance. Lemmy.ml being shutdown will kill my community outright. I respect that you disagree and I understand the reasons. I actually agree with you. If a community migration tool comes along, I will look into moving off of lemmy.world to a reliable and trustworthy gaming centric instance.
As for .world not being able to shoulder the burden. If they didn’t think they could handle the load, they can close signups and restrict new community generation. Since they haven’t, then they are choosing to accept these users and communities with open arms. I actually personally raised this issue with them when they surpassed lemmy.ml in total and active users. They are confident in their abilities to grow and manage. The admins were made aware of my intent to migrate and even helped me coordinate the transfer of ownership of [email protected] to my account for the purpose of doing so. They are very much in the loop on this.
I understand that this move is not one that is best for the fediverse, but at this time it is what is best for my community. The Mali situation does not provide me enough time to consider better alternatives. I live to fight another day. When a community migration tool comes along, I will consider migrating again. For now, this is my decision and what I think is best.
I was looking into this recently, prior to Mali, and was intending to reach out and inquire. The Mali issue caused me to make a quicker decision than I would have liked. I will consider more thoughtfully in the future, either to prepare for a future unforeseen issue, or for an eventual PS6 community establishment. I do see this as the way forward in the fediverse.
Fair enough. I will actively look into other instances when I formal migration tool comes along. For now, I had to make this decision in haste for the sake of my community, and that meant I didnt have the luxury of time to properly investigate alternatives. I appreciate your feedback though. You are not the only one voicing this concern, and I do hear you and understand the issue.
This is a very good and fair point. I did consider this and was beginning to actively investigate something like this already, specifically lemmy.zip. I have been pondering a move to something more appropriate for awhile now. Unfortunately the Mali situation is forcing my hand to act more quickly, and I wanted to pick an instance that has a known track record. The World admins have successfully run both lemmy.world as well as their mastodon instances. I do not know much about the gaming-centric instances and their admins enough to jump in blindly at this time. If I had more time to develop those connections with them, I would have done so (and was planning to do so).
I do think that something like a gaming-centric instance is the way forward long-term and supports the Fediverse’s values and it will be something I deeply consider when evaluating a potential future migration due to future circumstances or for something like a PS6 community establishment. If there were ever a way to more easily migrate communities, I will also consider this down the line.
I considered this, but I do not have the resources to run my own instance. There are some gaming focused instances that are popping up, but for now the most established gaming communities are on lemmy.world. Plus, I dont know much about those instance admins to trust blindly diving in with them. I am very happy with the lemmy.world admins and think they are doing a great job. They also have a successful track record with their mastodon instance, sot I have confidence in them longer term.
I will keep this in mind for a future migration to something like PS6 (or if some other catastrophe comes along lol).

I use an RSS reader app/website plugged into all the various news sites for gaming on all consoles and PC that a browse a few times a day. I post a lot of the news I like to the communities I mod. If you’re looking for an app, I recommend an RSS reader (there are a lot to choose from so I would dabble in a few and see what you like).
If you’re looking for gaming centric communities you probably already know where to find them on here, but resetera has good discussions as well. If you want to look for other communities across lemmy instances you can use https://lemmyverse.net/communities (be sure to set your home instance with the “home” icon so all links open correctly).
Good point, makes sense
