I’ll admit I didn’t read it. I fell into the typical trap of reacting only to the headline. Doesn’t change the fact that recent releases have been rather underwhelming while feeling increasingly resource hungry. Every new release seems more sluggish for very little improvement in my experience.

How about taking your time and releasing it when it’s ready? Stop picking dates right after the last release and just make something good again.

I’ve used WhatsApp on unlocked bootloaders for years. What isn’t working?

Also, I think DivestOS allows locking the bootloader in some cases.

Yeah, I have no experience with that side of the series except that it’s less arcade-y than Horizon.

This is a fair point, but these companies have enough money that they could set aside a small team that just tries new things. Whether the games succeed or fail shouldn’t matter. It should be a testing ground for finding new things to base a new IP around or just add to existing series or something.

The team should be allowed to take their time and just make something they’re passionate about and players should be able to get involved. Feedback should be taken seriously and used to improve what the team puts out.

I know this is an absolute pipe dream, but I wish companies would do this for the sake of keeping the business moving forward if not for the players.

Motorsport or Horizon? Horizon 4 was my first exposure to the series and I thought it was pretty good.

I loved the concept of Carbon. I just wish it had the driving physics of Most Wanted before it. Carbon just felt terrible to me.

Consider opening up that PS4 and cleaning out any dust. It doesn’t fix the noise completely, but it can make a big difference.

Hasn’t been the case for a good while now. Feel free to switch back if you ever want to.

There is no excuse for ads on Firefox or its forks. Installing uBlock Origin blocks any and all ads just like on desktop.

She almost never games and it’s always with a PS controller. So no need for that usually, but I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

Same thing for me. I switch effortlessly and she really struggles with it.

I love how the title says finally, as if it has some super amazing improvements we’ve all been excited about for ages. But, like you said it’s just a bigger, slower version of the same thing we already have.

I grew up with the PS Dualshock and Dualshock 2 controllers. They were all I ever knew as a kid. But, I absolutely prefer the XBox layout now as well. Something about it just works better for me. On the other hand, my wife also only knew PS growing up and she just can’t get used to the XBox layout.

As someone who hasn’t played 6, I didn’t know it was equally messy. Always fun to find stuff like that.

Also, if you go looking at speedruns and people who look at the code, this game is held together with spaghetti code, bubblegum and duct tape. So easy to just break something.

Try Grim Dawn at some point. It’s a bit of a spiritual successor to Titan Quest. Also a bit older by now, but still getting updates and expansions. A recent update even included a dodge.

I prefer a full-size physical sensor on the back of the phone myself. It tends to be more accurate and faster than the under screen ones I’ve dealt with. No idea about the power button ones. Convenient placement probably. Not sure about performance though.

Depends on the player, I think. It’s a rather unique kind of game in the ARPG genre since you combine two masteries to make up your class. I prefer Grim Dawn over most other games in the genre, including PoE.

Again, this is very much YMMV. Depends heavily on what you prefer as the player.

Might as well add Grim Dawn too. Though I’ve heard multiplayer can be a little janky.

You can sort folders from settings. It’s also possible to pin the camera folder so it’s always first.

I don’t know anything about the 8 line, but support for the OnePlus 7 Pro was also sad. All of the custom ROMs sucked until I found YAAP. No idea what Lineage looks like on this phone yet, but I’ll switch to it when YAAP is no longer supported.

All this to say I don’t think OnePlus is the amazing company with great custom ROM support that it once was. I always heard great things about their phones, but this was my first and last phone from them. I’ll be looking at other companies with better custom ROM support for my future phone purchases.

When I was living in China I noticed something similar. It was as if they were all trying to look as close as possible to Apple while being just distinct enough to not be an issue. Apple is huge in China, but not everyone can afford it I guess.

It’s a classic for a reason. But I can absolutely see why someone would have a hard time playing it.

I get that. FF VII is probably my favourite game. But, I grew up with it. I think that plays a huge roll. If I discovered it for the first time now, I’d probably feel the same way you do.

Don’t skip the remake, though. I hate that there’s differences from the original, but I view it as a retelling from a different perspective regarding the story. The gameplay kicks ass. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes the style of game.

Get a Pixel and give it a shot. If it doesn’t work for you the Pixels have amazing support in the custom ROM community so you’ll be able to find something you like for sure.

I know there was a remindmebot on Mastodon that was accessible from Lemmy. Sadly I don’t remember how to call it or know if it’s still up.

I’m not too familiar with crDroid, but my guess is that this has something to do with your GApps. I’ve never had much luck with the bigger packages. I either use the minimal packages or use a ROM that has the Google feature I’m looking for built in, like Pixel Experience or YAAP.

This is probably not what you wanted to hear, so I hope someone else can give you a better solution.

Oh that seems like it would be a bit more involved then. I’ll maybe hold off on this one until I’ve tried some others then.

Never heard of that before. Only familiar with TWRP and OrangeFox myself, but these days every custom ROM has its own very basic recovery anyway if you don’t need anything special.

Then it might be a good starting point for someone like me that isn’t familiar with the genre.

TWRP and OrangeFox allow you to make full backups and do root things without rooting your phone. If you have no need for that kind of functionality then it doesn’t make sense to do it. ClockWorkMod I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist anymore, or does it?

I’d happily buy another one if it was as good as the 2S that I still use as my secondary phone.

Has to be my Xiaomi Mix 2S I bought in 2019. Selfie camera is at the bottom of the phone, which is weird, but at least it’s not a notch camera. Custom ROM support was amazing and it’s still a great phone.

Edit: Fingerprint reader on the back too. Always reliable unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro that has one in the screen that refuses to work 50% of the time.

Well that sucks. Maybe we need a community remake or something.
