Yeah. No such thing as moderation on Facebook anymore. I’ve reported porn, abuse and a lot of other things. Never gets removed…

And it basically has emboldened the worst people in society because they know nothing will get done

Good. I literally was suggested a video the other day on building your own gun. Gee, I wonder who would want an untraceable gun…

It’s only normal for Americans to think they’re toys.

It’s not normal for kids to go shooting, and it’s not normal to own one.

Here in Australia, you’re not allowed to own one for self defence.

And it’s not normal for make entire YouTube channels for them

Yep, maybe if you abuse me, it will add credibility…

Your post specifically was correlating the two. But, seems more like since you don’t have any real justification for your response, you’re resorting to calling me a “STAN” or whatever. If you want to do that, I prefer you stick to Reddit, where that behavior is commonplace.

Google have done very little to block other app stores or other ad providers on their platforms… That’s why they’re likely far behind. Apple on the other hand have a long history of blocking apps, or delaying them, and blocking App stores.

The proof is, most popular Android products aren’t even made by Apple (Samsung). And a lot of android products don’t even ship the Play store.

Complaints for IOS and Android developers are remarkably different. Many Android developers are complaining there are too many variants of devices, whereas many Apple developers (particularly bigger ones) complain about Apple business practices.

Getting locked out of the App Store, means your product is dead. Even worse, Apple used to ban entire products from their app store, explicitly if it replicates some of their functionality too (or even not even tell the developer why). If that’s not anti-competitive, I don’t know what is.

That’s true… Apparently 90% of their profit is ads

But they don’t block other ad providers in the google play store, and they don’t block other hardware using Android to show their own ads. In fact Apple could technically adopt android and put their own app store on it. You can’t do that on IOS.

In fact, Google is getting penalised simply because their search engine is dominating the market (but they’re not doing anything to prevent other companies in Chrome for instance for putting their own search engines and such). Whereas Apple is getting penalised for hostile behavior.

They actually are.

  1. Android allows people to bypass their store as an example, and their APIs are a lot more permissive. It’s also a mostly open OS (except some parts)
  2. It doesn’t matter what you think about Google, remember, Apple gets paid millions / billions to make them the default search engine. So they’re at least as bad
  3. Remember Pebble? Apple abused their app store to kill them off
  4. Apple doesn’t treat their resellers particularly well.
  5. Microsoft bailed them out, and then they repaid them, but sh**talking them.
  6. They don’t treat developers particularly well either. Apple actively uses their monopoly to compete against other developers, and even screws subscription services
  7. Apple deceived customers to win business. I used to sell them, and their Mac Vs PC ads accomplished what they’d hoped. Every new customer walked in and thought Mac’s can’t get viruses and won’t crash. Here in Australia, they should have been sued
  8. You can even develop Android and Chrome apps without any Google hardware. Apple however, that’s not an option.
  9. Apple even forced developers to use their Apple ID thing.
  10. Apple doesn’t sell your details. However, it’s almost impossible to use their hardware without providing them, and they even forced their resellers to meet targets whilst actively competing against them (using the harvested details)

They’re literally NOTHING alike. Apple literally treats everyone like crap, but sugar coats it. The only real bad thing you could say about Google is privacy related honestly (and the fact they keep killing their own projects).

In fact, name any type of Apple user who they treat well?

I use a Mac Studio, and I’d love to work at Apple simply to help improve things on the inside. The crazy thing is that the problem isn’t the Apple developers, but select people in their team

Not a single person is surprised.

The reality is that Apple has been anti consumer and anti developer for 20 years. I was selling apple gear, and can practically pinpoint the moment they started screwing everyone

And nobody noticed…

Maybe calling a hero cave diver a pedo wasn’t a great idea, Elon

I didn’t even realise until the other day you need an account to use it now at all it seems.

So no surprise. In the past, I recall you could browse without a login… so of course nobody is going to put ads on it

Also, why would you want those customers?

You can’t use a lot of apps without it

So sure you can, but it isn’t an awesome experience

I looked something up today.

Do plumbers fit shower screens? Plumbers do not usually fit frameless shower screens. Most of the time, they break the glass panels and hurt themselves. Others do not try going through the installation hassle.

The whole thing is embarrassing. The only way it could be worse could be if they harvested 4chan

Honestly… That’s a fairly harsh response to someone with an opinion…

I kind of feel they don’t deserve that attack… It doesn’t mean they have any plans to buy it.

I wouldn’t, and I’m actually selling my ps5 and set up my old PC with steam and big picture mode… But, pointing out the disadvantages in a normal way is more effective than attacking people

There’s a reason GitHub is the largest service lol

You need to sell services based on their advantages rather than the politics. The reality is, github allows projects to be very easily migrated to other services anyway.

Using something because it’s open source isn’t helpful at all if it doesn’t work with your workflow easily

Productivity is more important to the success of open source than anything else.

I know this, because a project of mine died because we wasted too much time on infrastructure

Developers don’t need access to the GitHub source to do their job, and there is no advantage to anyone.

In fact, if they distribute the code, it simply reduces the incentive for Microsoft to improve it, and the only ones who will step are, are shit companies like Oracle

There is a massive GitHub API which you probably already aren’t using. And now you want them to release the source code which you also won’t look at?

If they open source the code, what contributions would you make? How many contributions have you made to the Lemmy code? How many with vs code?

How would it benefit open source projects given that GitHub hosting is free for open source? How would it benefit GitHub?

Would you host your own GitHub repo when you can host it for free (which it will be for open source) on GitHub or other services anyway

Some projects don’t really benefit from open source.

If it’s a big thing, host your own using an open source project. Compete against GitHub.

But calling me a shill isn’t really an effective argument. I have contributed to a few open source projects in the past and released some of my own.

I don’t feel like forcing companies to open source their projects is the way. Open source needs to win on it’s own merits. And plenty of open source projects have (the Linux kernel as an example).

Have you contributed anything to githubs competitors? That might be a place to start. Because at the moment, there aren’t any issues with GitHub that open sourcing would address. Microsoft don’t need the additional resources

So tired of seeing these posts.

Nobody worth listening to is complaining about creating an account on GitHub. Ubuntu brainstorm was a huge success and you had to create an account for that too

It literally takes 30s.

And github has a hugely comprehensive API that allows developers to easily move if that want to.

If Microsoft Open sourced the backend, the reality is, nobody would look at the code, and everyone would still use GitHub because it’s reliable. Vs code is open source, and I’m willing to bet community contributions are limited

And open sourcing the backend just means Oracle will take the code, and set up their own server for marginally cheaper and make GitHub worse… That’s what they did with red hat

Sounds like the bf used dr Google, and likely doctors didn’t believe the symptoms matched at all

I live in Australia where they were banned. There were literally neo Nazis publicly being Nazis trying to make others feel unwelcome and feel like they were in danger. Nazi symbols have been banned in Germany for ages (which should tell you something). If you want to make up some weird conspiracy theory like they’re playing 4d chess, good for you. People like me also got sick of reporting Nazi shit to councils after they took pt to get home and acted like hateful dickheads. I guess you want to keep burning crosses and the kkk legal too eh? Guys like me get sick of removing Nazi stickers though

The location where I live has nothing to do with cars. Work is located in a more expensive place to live. And even if I move, should I tell my family I can’t see them anymore because they don’t live close enough to me?

Again, I do hiking (I actually operate a hiking group). You’ve skipped that comment because your argument doesn’t sound great when you start telling people they can’t go outdoors anymore.

The problem with cars isn’t that they exist. It’s that too many clowns are buying big cars they don’t need, and they need to be designed to be more repairable/modular. More public transport is definitely needed though, and more density of population… But some people like me (even ignoring work) will continue to need a vehicle to get around. I also think emergency services will be more efficient with a car eh

Battery technology will rapidly catch up. The first big changes have already just come (sodium ion) which is already a step forward. If lithium air happens, it will be a game changer

Also, I received an award for graduating top 5 people in state in one of my high school subjects… So honestly, I suspect I’m not a total idiot like you claim.

EV’s can also act as a VPP and feed power back into the grid too, stabilising it. Yeah… Those blackouts you guys claim are ALWAYS coming? EV’s can actually help with that…

Also, Sodium Ion Batteries just got released, which is a huge step up (more environmentally friendly), and Solid State batteries are getting closer and closer.

Also, batteries get recycled. So yes, those big heavy batteries, are reused, by future batteries (which are likely more efficient). We’re only at the start of Lithium batteries too. Lithium air has made huge developments recently. lithium Air is 5000-11000Wh/kg vs Lithium Ion 300wh/kg. So, with the same weight, that means a future Lithium air based car could have 16x-30x more range (and we have plenty of lithium here in Australia). Or, 16x smaller batteries (which due to lower curb weight, would be amazingly efficient). And, future EV’s will likely be more modular too

Unless you’re proposing I ride my bike 60km per day for work? I also do lots of hiking, so, do you propose they run a trainline to the middle of forests? Or do I not hike anymore?

But judging by the fact you have posts unhappy with the Nazi salute being declared illegal, I’m going to say this is typical right-wing facebook BS

Yeah ok… So, there isn’t really much that could be done in this case except use Winter tyres anyway? If so, that makes this article seem even more silly I’m guessing?

Egh, looks like the facebook crowd has come to Lemmy.

Wrong tires… It’s that simple…

I hate Elon as much as the rest of us, but this reads like it’s written by the Anti-EV crowd. All it needs is an ad for a Dodge RAM at the bottom… And, I don’t particularly find the cybertruck (or any large truck), appealing at all tbh

I can put the wrong tires on my jeep too, and skid off the road when its wet… Not everywhere needs snow tyres (here in Australia, they would be useless), and I’d be guessing they’re less efficient too?

Also, I’m not really sure how it works with deep snow (since I’m here in Australia), but wouldn’t snowchains help as an alternative? Or can you not use them on EV’s?.. Or do they not work with deep snow?

The worst part is that a Youtube Premium Subscription costs more than Netflix or other streaming providers here in Australia… And you’re basically paying for ad removal of a metric ton of low quality content (and their music service, which isn’t as good as others I found)

That being said, this might not be true (I’ve seen lots of BS online regarding browsers in the past)

The problem with Hydrogen, is that its not efficient (fuel cells apparently are only 40-60% efficient). In contrast, batteries are 90% or more efficient (and improving)

So, you’d be wasting 50% of the power generated, and wasting fresh water too… Thats all assuming too that the additional minerals in the water won’t cause extra issues either.

Battery costs keep dropping, and the technology keeps improving rapidly.

If they can get the efficiency much higher, maybe… It also might make sense for long range cars (at the moment) due to energy density

But, in practice, companies like BP and traditional gas companies are the main ones who benefit from a hydrogen economy. Because they can use non-renewable to undercut everyone

Lol. Both sides argue? Most tweets are by a small number of people. Before, right wingers were complaining it’s all bots, now suddenly, Elon pushes dodgy Right wing accounts to the frontpage and you guys reckon it’s not true anymore.

How many people do you know who actually use Twitter? I can only think of one, and fairly sure he left it ages ago.

Twitter is growing in irrelevance. Just because people have accounts on it doesn’t mean they use it either.

Do you really think Twitter is growing? Lol.

Yes Please. Twitter is dead, and we’re just reminding people to go take a look at it constantly. Just let the internet forget about him.

Yeah. Let’s not turn into reddit or Murdoch media and click bait everything

I switched from windows to Mac… I agree. The video cards on the M1/M2 is pretty bad (no proper raytracing and such). I actually got a PS5 and use that instead for gaming (and already have a XBOX Series X)

But they’d both be dead if we didn’t keep posting so many reminders of them

At the point if time, we’re just generating free traffic for him by continuously reminding they exist.

Just let Twitter die.

Rather than admit his crappy submarine wouldn’t work after an expert diver told him, he called them a pedophile.

You’d be insane to listen to a guy who publicly refuses to listen to advice

I doubt they needed to be a 1337 H4x0r in this case.

People voting trump generally aren’t particularly smart and many of them have probably isolated themselves so much, they probably didn’t have much real help.

Furthermore, knowing these kind of people, they probably didn’t pay the guy who made it, and they probably defaced it (which wouldn’t be a surprise).

The fact its still offline seems to suggest the latter

That’s a blast from the past haha. People were still using ICQ Messenger back then and MSN Messenger
