so, the point about shitty journalism stands, and is actually a good point.

the point about calling CP2077 basically a scam and deceptive is not that good of a point.

afaik, the major problem player in the botched release wasn’t CDPR themselves, although they do deserve some of the blame, but Sony:

Cyberpunk was supposed to be one of the flagship/tech-demo titles of PC (Nvidia), PS4 (later PS5), and XBOX (whatever stupid ass designation it had at the time…xXxBoXOnExXx or some shit? …whatever).

development started on the PS4, then it was decided that PC release should happen at the same time as console release, so the PS4 version got ported to PC.

then the PS5 released, so development moved to PS5, which came with a bunch of upgrades and updates to the engine and other components. as one would expect.

same thing happened with PC hardware: new specs, new features, better performance, etc.

then, about 2-ish years (?) before release, along comes Sony and notices that “hey! the original contract said you’d release on PS4!” and CDPR obviously said “well… that’s kinda not possible anymore. the game can’t run on outdated hardware due to its performance requirements.” and Sony threatened with lawsuits and insisted on a last-gen release.

and THAT’S where all the (major) problems started: CDPR was forced (by Sony!) to backport the MUCH more advanced version that was expected to run on MUCH more powerful hardware, which proved borderline impossible.

this proved to be such an enormous undertaking that development on the actual game basically stopped, as they pretty much had to develop an entirely new game for the old console.

given the recent news about Sony, is it really any surprise they made a completely ridiculous decision regarding software they obviously don’t understand the ramifications of?

like i said, CDPR definitely deserves some of the blame here, but most of the blame lies with Sony for enforcing such a ridiculous, and technologically unfeasible, requirement without any understanding (or rather, wilfull ignorance) of the scope of said requirement.

Sony literally would have rather not sold ANY game than adjust their contract. they were being completely unreasonable, yet CDPR commonly gets ALL of the blame, which again, they only deserve a small part of.

so for something completely different and focusing solely on the “size” aspect:

the biggest, that i am aware of, game in terms of sheer SIZE involved, is Stellaris:

it’s a paradox grand strategy game, not first person at all, so completely different from the other recommendations and probably nothing to do with what you asked for…but if you want something truly MASSIVE…well…can’t go much larger than galaxy spanning all out war involving gigantic fleets and armies!

so if power fantasies is something you’re interested in, maybe take a look! it’s pretty easy to get into, but has a lot of depth (but no requirement) to master later on! and it has a lot of settings regarding game speed and difficulty to tailor it to your tastes.

and mods, god help me, the mods; play a couple hours to get to know the game, then definitely get Gigastructural Engineering from the workshop. short list of ridiculous engineering:

  • Attack Moons
  • Behemoth Planetcraft
  • Neutronstar Gigaforge
  • Matryoshka Brain
  • and a bunch, even more ridiculously huge projects!

(sidenote: the new DLC subscription on steam is…kinda worth it honestly. not the worst idea, especially to just try it out for a couple hours. i was extremely skeptical, but it’s kinda, surprisingly, less predatory than the previous “we’ll release 2 20$ DLCs, and 1 30/40$ DLC per year” model…)

yeah, saw that comment later…seems like a troll…

nah, they’re just THAT dense and have no idea what they’re talking about…not a troll, just too dumb to realize they’re being dumb…

noita is insane and has absolutely zero handholding. it’s truly hardcore and kinda souls-like in difficulty/lore, but truly excellent!

magicraft is the king in casual spell crafting, very good game to play a bit after work, can call it quits anytime and pick it back up again. just had it’s full launch as well and might still be -20% (about 12€)

fictorum is fairly unique, because it’s first-/third-person and 3D, and also very good with an intuitive spell system and a little bit of indie game jank

not true; that’s a developer thing, not steam itself.

steam offers it as an option, it doesn’t force developers to use it.

plenty of games bought on steam can be run entirely without steam.

f95zone has it almost certainly, if not, request it in a request thread, done.

works for pretty much any NSFW title ;)

well, rimworld does have a focus on (micro)management and strategy!

if your pawns are constantly down due to raiders, then you need better defenses! …or tame a herd of animals and release those at your enemies! (rhinos work very well for this!)

there are tons of little optimizations you can make to efficiently run a colony. for example, social fights: you can keep those from happening by keeping the problematic pawns in different areas! or removing one or both of their tongues! or sending one on basically permanent caravan missions! etc., etc.

this kind of deep strategizing, combined with the random bullshit the game throws at you, is mostly why people love rimworld!

and mods… definitely get mods! that’s where the game reeeaaally shines!

re: rimworld

it’s really important to read the messages and the little bits (like the logs when a social fight occurs) to really get immersed in the story!

might be worth watching some YouTubers playing to see what i mean!

hazzor usually does a good job of getting into the story, so does ambiguousAmphibian

but as the others said: if it’s really not for you, then it’s just not for you!

the information age is easy: the silicon age!

not sure about the space age…maybe titanium age? that’s about the time we figured out how to machine titanium on large scales, and for highly specialized, extreme applications (talking about the SR-71 here, mostly). could also call it the alloy age, since a number of important alloys were discovered around that time

you are right!

i did actually forget about that when commenting, and thanks for the added info!

however, that’s not exactly what i was talking about:

assuming normal or better soil you need less work (i.e. time spent working the fields) per unit of nutrition when moving from rice->potato->corn because of yield.

so your pawns spend less time planting and harvesting, which results in higher overall colony productivity since they can do other stuff in-between, like cooking, cleaning, mining, etc.

you are correct in that you should choose which plant you use based on the soil first, and according to productivity second!

i just wasn’t really considering soil quality when writing the comment…

when starting a new game:

-set up a stockpile:

indoors, preferably shelves, but that’s a goal to work towards

-stockpile some food:

starting with a talented grower makes early game easier. rice is best in the beginning, when it’s beginning to stockpile switch to potatoes, when those stockpile to corn. each step requires less work by your pawns, leaving more time for other stuff.

-get a ranged weapon and some defenses

some bows if there’s nothing else. first raid is alwaysa single melee guy, that’s scripted, afaik. setup some sand bags or embrasures. walls/corridors to limit the range enemies can shoot at you.

-get batteries

super important! difficult to have a reliable food supply without those!

-get a freezer

also super important because of the above!

-set up a prison

last on the list, not that high of a priority…but still, get some more people!

and then do pretty much what you want…once early game is done, get some research done, plant some cotton, some herbal meds, set up a little medical area, etc.

this should get you to mid game fairly reliably!

Also let me emphasize this: for every discord server shut down like this, there are 100+ servers with almost the same purpose that still exist and will continue to for at least the next 3y.

you completely missed the point here:

the issue that those aren’t around NOW, the issue is that they WILL inevitably disappear eventually and every shred of knowledge platformed there will be irretrievably lost to the void.

discord is a black hole for information:

it sucks information in and deletes it from existence.

that’s why it’s bad.

the time frame doesn’t really matter here.

Patch 6 only really broke the script extender (well hotfix #18 really)

nvm, just checked, it’s up to date! (hotfix #19 is supported!)

pretty much everything is up to date!

i don’t think so, but you can either entirely disable it, or make them passive, or tune it to your liking; there’s tons of customizability in the difficulty!

it’s honestly some pretty smart design in how they handled it! you should give it a try, see if you like it!

one little beginners tip that’s kinda important: they always choose the shortest path to your base (so pretty much any structure you build) and they attack based on your power consumption! (there’s a little widget that tells you when a wave is coming)

*They’re the same picture

(the dark fog update is seriously sick tho)

that’d be great in theory!

if only the vanguard anti-cheat wasn’t ridiculously easy to bypass and effectively useless while also being a major security concern…

I’ve started a new Minecraft world on the All the Mods 9 modpack together with a buddy of mine!

it’s been a blast so far!

just getting ae2 setup going, beginning to automate all the things, it’s great!

sexual content

not an expected part of life

say that again, but very slowly…

alternatively I’d be thrilled to hear all about these alternative ways to have kids that you apparently think are out there…and then I’d like it explained to me how exactly that’s not an “expected part of life”??

ow2 is a free alpha release, and sc2 is over 10 years old and hasn’t received any major content in at least 4 years…

plus sc2 co-op commanders had a bundle deal right before development got dropped for the game, but now, years later, blizzard expects you to pay a full 15$ per commander to unlock!

and obviously there’s no way to unlock them through gameplay…

so one of the two is straight up worse than the one it replaced, and the other is stupidly expensive given how ancient it is.

great examples, really.

i think it’s weird how outright immune software companies are from false advertising claims…

like, in any other industry, failure to deliver promised products would lead to a lawsuit…

overall some good points, but this one is simply untrue:

Gaming options: Without resorting to piracy, consoles offer the largest variety of gaming options. More games release on console than they do on PC.

a higher number of games is released on PC by a huge margin.

you also forgot to mention modding, which is either not an option, or very limited on consoles…
