I wouldn’t say fuck upscaling entirely, especially for 4k it can be useful on older cards. FSR made it possible to play Hitman on my 1070. But yeah, if I’m going for 4k I probably want very good graphics too, eg. in RDR2, and I don’t want any upscaling there. I’m so used to native 4k that I immediately spot if it’s anything else - even in Minecraft.
And frame generation is only useful in non-competetive games where you already have over 60 FPS, otherwise it will still be extremely sluggish, - in which case, it’s not realy useful anymore.
I, and a lot of other people, have extreme lag (max 40 FPS permanently, 1s+ lag spikes) on Maps like Train and Basalt. I upgraded from a 1070 to a 7800 XT. AND STILL ONLY HAVE MAX 100 FPS INSTEAD OF THE 200+ I USED TO HAVE. The contrast is HORRIBLE. Even CTs in front of a white wall are hard to spot now.
Subtick is ass. Where you were minorly impacted by higher ping in GO, you’re royaly fucked with low ping now.
There are no useful console commands anymore. Want to see clip brushes? Go fuck yourself.
The worst part? There’s no Linux build for the “legacy” GO version!
They still have 1.6 online as seperate game. They still have Source online as seperste game. BUT THEY REPLACED GO. RIGHT OUT OF CLOSED BETA. WHY NOT JUST MAKE IT PUBLIC, SCALE CS:GO SERVERS DOWN AND CS:2 SERVERS UP???
And, of course, way fewer maps and no dangerzone. Valve tests Alpha-Software on us, for years now. That’s fucked up.
Why would you buy through a carrier anyway? Especially because if it’s cheaper than from the manufacturer, it means that YOU are the product too. In the end, the carrier version is also much more bloated. Which in some countries/providers (eg. Etisalat) actually includes Pegasus in the official provider app.
Is it just much less common to buy a carrier device here, in germany, or do you need to be in the brainrotted part of GenZ or something for that?
Every person I know either already has a Windows 11 ready device, or doesn’t know what an OS is. In the later case, I doubt they would trust themselves to buy a new laptop, rightfully tho. Luckily we have a bunch of old laptops from work, Win 11 compatible. Nobody will buy a new Laptop in my village!
Most games made in UE are AAA games, where every A stands for more scam, jankyness and less value overall. Very rushed, no love, made to barely work on “my machine” (4090). Many Unity games are smaller cash grabs.
The most devs that fulfill at least one criterium well (eg. Gameplay, Performance, Stability) are either small studios with their own engine (4AGames, Croteam, Minecraft), or publishers with one banger per 5 years or so: Valve (lost it with CS2 tho), Rockstar. Because those devs either put love, time or both into the games.
Any devices, that do not work on any of my machines:
Any devices, that did not work out of the box on any of my machines and needed a seperate package (I use a distro without any preinstalled drivers): Fingerprint sensor, NVidia GPU (only for gaming, it does work just not very performant)
Any devices, that did work out of the box: Every mouse (including the PowerPlay mousepad), every keyboard, headphones, cameras, printers/scanners, touchpads, game controllers
Bonus: Android to Linux OTG networking in both directions
Any devices that do not work with Windows: Scanner, Touchpad (in the installer), Bonus: Intel Rapid Storage Technology
The only thing where google maps is superior is the reviews. In all other points OSM is more detailed and often more up to date. Especially due to nerds like us, that while waiting for the radicalistic-left club to open, explore a mislabeled playground, fix that, and continue to complete streets for OSM with one dude’s phone that can measure distances.
However, google maps does have a lot of data too. Except the app, as all google apps, has literally no useful settings and is awful to use in many aspects.
And for FOSS apps that give traffic data: There are none that I’m aware of. There are, however, alternative, crowd sourced apps/websites for germany, like Blitzer.de, that not only show speed cams but also traffic data. Not ideal, but better.
If the top 8000 card is at least as good as the 7900 XTX, yes. But as they said they won’t have any top-level GPUs … I’m not confident it will be. I would’ve waited for more information before building a new PC, just as I waited till Ryzen 9000 and x870(e) were released. But honestly, I’m just going to gamble and get the components asap, because there is no real information about RX 8000 or 79950 yet anyway.
CES didn’t shine a good light on their marketing, and the whole sector is literally a ripoff.
