That’s great, but I wish they didn’t have a contractual requirement to use CryEngine. The engine is really holding the game back, its not built for the kind of game Star Citizen is. RSI could have developed their own inhouse engine by now with probably more features and better performance since its purpose built to handle Star Citizen.
They aren’t obligated to use any engine and haven’t been using CryEngine for years, it’s on their own fork of Lumberyard called Star Engine. No game is legally obliged to use any 3rd party engine. They have a license to use it but that just gives permission, it’s not an obligation. That lawsuit was an act of desperation by CryEngine as they faced bankruptcy. They settled for pennies on the dollar out of court as it was less expensive than going to trial.
That’s not why the game is bad. It was lacking any engaging story or characters or any repeatability, I didn’t even notice deficiency in the FPS portion because of how lacking the rest was
The fact that they are trying to “bring the FPS combat to AAA standard” when the damn game isn’t even supposed to be an FPS, is exactly why this game will never get finished.
Think of a time in your work life where some project had the worst scope creep you’ve ever seen. Now multiply that by 1000.

Lumberyard is technically an offshoot of cryengine but they moved off cryengine years ago

Yeah, there are some interesting gameplay loops in there but not much interesting progression or narrative to keep you going.

By the time the next feature is up to AAA standard, they’ll need to bring FPS combat back up at the rate they make progress.
