I get that Christmas football is traditional but there seems to be games squeezed in for no point. Keep the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day games, and scrap those in between.
I don’t know. Football is without a doubt a high intensity job, but these players are incredibly well compensated despite only having to do half a days work for the majority of their days. Compare that with someone who works in IT and is on call? Or a nurse and their weekly twelve hour shifts.
I definitely think scheduling can and should be improved, but not because of fixture congestion or them playing too many games, but because football exists because of fans and sometimes we go a week without a game or have a couple weeks worth of untelevised games. What we need is fixture consistency.
I know it sounds like I’m saying they’re really well played, play them to death, but I’m not. I’m saying that the amount of games isn’t the problem, the problem is pointless congestion. I believe Arteta mentioned that perhaps we should enlarge the squads if we’re playing this many games.

It doesn’t matter how well they are paid, the human body can only play so many games a year. We’re seeing that this year with the increase in injuries

I’d scrap meaningless, but lucrative and market-development-cectric, summer friendly tournaments over an extra game at Christmas time.
