Today’s game is Stardew Valley. I got my friends to join me some more for our farm. We are currently at 6 members (one of our players didn’t get the memo we were playing and refunded it thinking we had given up playing), so no change unfortunately in player count. We’ve made a lot of progress though.

Near the end of Summer I was already getting Married (I picked Haley). I set things up right with gifts, the cart, and even the Luau to get there.

This would be the third time I’ve ever gotten married in Stardew Valley, which is weird considering I have almost 25 different saves spread across my Switch, my PC, and my phone.

I even managed to catch the Crimson Fish, which brings me to my key talking point. I like how the game has these clearly defined routes for each of the money making paths. It really makes it fun to kind of pick out one method of making money and reach the pinnacle of that. And then later you can add another into the mix, or even do them all.

Stardew valley I feel like is made up of a bunch of really simple moving parts but they’re so well oiled and all add together to make something really fun to play. Not to mention the support from the developer over the years. It’s crazy to think. I remember playing this game in middle school. Now I’m in college, I can drink, and I even have a job. And after all these years the game still is supported. It’s respectable.

I like the cosy atmosphere of this game but it feels like I gotta grind too hard tp achieve anything and I just lose interest (also happened with Subnautica). Just me?

SDV felt quite hectic when I tried to do everything the game told me about, but once I let go and didn’t worry about the upcoming evaluation, everything became nicer.

But if you can’t shake the need to do everything ASAP, can’t help you there. But the game has very few (if any?) missable things, no need to do everything NOW NOW NOW, there’s always next year.

Though, yea, there’s quite a bit of work to do for eg. 100% community center or both dungeons. I suppose there’s mods to alleviate the “grind/difficulty”, but haven’t checked.

I enjoyed it most playing the first time, blind. Now that I know about achievements and the different milestones, it’s harder not to try to do everything in year one.

I end up choosing to focus on one thing at a time, and it becomes more chill again. Usually year one is focused on setting up a good farm and making it easy to care for. Then I might focus on the mines, or fishing.

I completely get that. I usually drop off around the marriage part. I never usually end up completing the community center

My wife is up to 800 hours with this game across half a dozen saves. She’s doing a completionist run right now that’s about 200 hours in, getting close.

Kind of amazing how much depth there is in this game and little hidden things that you’d never find unless you REALLY put time into it.

I’ve got maybe 200 hours in total on mine, though that’s not including Mobile or Switch. I don’t usually get invested in the smaller things, but I love seeing how invested people can get in them

The diversity of games you play regularly is both impressive and intimidating to me

I bounce around a lot and have built up quite the backlog when I was younger. It does help though that I have a lot of free time afforded to me (with a small but really spacious budget)

I’ll try not too! Honestly doing these has done a lot for me as a person. Not too get too deep or anything but I feel like it’s given me a structure I didn’t have before

I especially love the winter and fall themes. Maybe it’s nostalgia but I have really fond memories of waking up for class at 6 AM during December and while I was waiting to leave I’d sit there and cram a few days in.
