The HDMI forum sure is making a great job of making DP the new standard.

The HDMI connectors were fragile and getting loose from repeated use anyway. They suck.

Unfortunately you can’t get displayport tvs yet at least according to my cursory search

hence why an adapter like this is really important. we get the full capability of the dvi port on a computer while using an hdmi wire to connect to a television

I’ll take any opportunity to scream to the heavens:

“HDMI IS THE WORST CONSUMER STANDARD, ONLY USB MICRO-B APPROACHES ITS LEVEL OF JANK”

USB is pretty jank now, too, with how they’re trying to make it the “everything” connector. I am dealing with USB issues every week (pro/commercial AV) nowadays

The universal thing is the whole point of a “universal” serial bus, isn’t it?

Problems only arise because cables and ports aren’t properly labeled with capabilities.

It’s ok for consumer stuff but it has a lot of problems in professional environments. I’m not talking peripherals and laptop docks.

It’s hard to extend/convert, has a cap on hubs, and there’s compatibility issues. Enforcement of the standard is understandably lacking when it’s supposed to work in every application. But it’s like every company invents their own proprietary way to use it so there only thing standard is the connector itself.

Yeah. And it could be the master of a LOT if it just gave up a few.

I love USB when it connects things at my desk. I like it a lot less elsewhere

USB-B is janky? I’ve never had issues with it, but I also don’t work with it frequently.

Edit: Nevermind, I can’t read. Yeah, Micro-B is terrible.

Consider yourself lucky, I’ve never seen a connector fail at a higher rate. The ports are the problem, they’re extremely fragile and often don’t grip the connection properly. For a particularly egregious example take a look at the DualShock 4

Oh, I missed the “micro” part. Yeah, micro-B is awful.

When Apple was dragging its feet about moving to USB-C, I remember people talking about how terrible a connector Lightning was. I was confused, because yeah compared to USB-C Lightning was terrible, but Lightning was miles better than micro-B and mini-B, which were the standards when Lightning was created.

Apple held onto it too long because they were greedy. But when they made it, it was a damn good connector for the time.

Especially the mini-HDMI ports that are all the rage (pun intended) on portable displays.

Wait, will this fix the “no audio” issue when using a DP–>HDMI cable on Linux? Tried setting up a media PC for a friend and ran into this problem.
