Hard to find non-biased info about this, but it appears to be about doxxing? Public info is claimed, but that has to be investigated.
Their names and home towns are published by a newspaper. Its very definitely public info
This development didn’t shock me. I tried Bluesky a while ago to choose which SM platforms are suitable for me. It is filled with corpos, libs and OF girls. It’s like a Twitter Lite.
perfect definition of bluesky.
Why did they do it? Was it something a little like the Scunthorpe problem (ex: they got suspended because it contained Nazi content but they didn’t realize the purpose was to expose Nazis)?
If you look right now, the top comment is showing a list of names, ages, and locations.
I’m guessing “researchers aren’t allowed to share publicly available information” means “we’re not allowed to dox people, how dare they”.

Bluesky is quickly becoming as bad or worse than other platforms. I knew that “no more Caesars” was bullshit.
It’s amazing how people just can’t learn the lesson that the problem isn’t that a particular oligarch owns a public forum, but that public forums are privately owned in the first place.
They did make the at protocol. You can self-host your bluesky.
why would you selfhost blue sky instead of mastodon?
The discovery algorithm runs through Bluesky servers and is extremely resource intensive to self host.
Jack “No More Caesars (excluding myself)” Dorsey.
dorsey left blue sky a while ago because he forsaw problems and switched to nostr
which famously has no problems
what happened with nostr?
terrible ux, worse culture
you’re right about the ux; i just tried and couldn’t use it lol
