They did make the at protocol. You can self-host your bluesky.
The discovery algorithm runs through Bluesky servers and is extremely resource intensive to self host.

Why would you self host bluesky. When you have an actual federated open source platform like Lemmy or mastodon?

I’m guessing “researchers aren’t allowed to share publicly available information” means “we’re not allowed to dox people, how dare they”.
I have no sympathy for nazis, but this is just creating outrage for the sake of it.

I would also like to add their “federation” is actually scam-like. one can’t find different instances as easily like Lemmy, Mastodon, or PeerTube.
