Why would you buy game items if you don’t want to actually open the game

A key feature here seems to be the ability to create wishlists and gift to friends. So, if you play Marvel Rivals and want a skin, a friend who you have on Discord but doesn’t play Marvel Rivals at all could buy it for you as a gift. Kinda cool, actually. I have many friends on Discord but don’t necessarily play all the same games as them.

Good lord! I’ve been trying to get my friends off of discord and onto my matrix server. This is the worst

Same. Now i just call them on steam if we play a game. Discord got so cancerous.

This is just each patch note for Discord. It’s so hard to move people off it though, ughhhh

Yeah i haven’t convinced a single person off of it. They complain anything else is too hard.

I miss techy people from the early 2000s that didnt bitch about setting up voice servers.

Discord unfortunately “just works”. It’s simple for people to add someone, type to them, call them voice or video, stream their screen. I don’t think anything else does this as well as Discord, so it’s borderline impossible to convince anyone who isn’t a nerd to try some new option. Discord need to do a major fuckup to start an exodus.

If Teamspeak didn’t sit on it’s ass for a decade, we all would probably still be using that.

Still waiting for a competitor that I can get my friends to switch to.

No, Matrix doesn’t seem to be it.  Nor does IRC or XMPP.  People don’t care to deal with the “hassle”.

There will not be a worth while competitor because the only way you can overcome the network effect is billion dollar marketing campaigns. And you don’t get those without being on the same enshitification pipeline as discord.

Teamspeak seems to be the closest, but the newest versions bringing more discord-like features aren’t there yet.

Maybe I just want to return to the old days lol.

Teamspeak is so close to being amazing. The only problems I have are that it’s not open source, and even when you self-host a ts server, a lot of data still goes through their servers. Oh also, I can’t screen share with audio on Linux

I finally bit the bullet and joined discord last year.

Okay damn this is a pretty stable system with video streaming and voice chat. And the communities.

This is innovation! Now I don’t even have to play the games to get a sense of satisfaction.

Game publishers: We aren’t predating on children fast enough. How will we ever achieve infinite money if we don’t predate on children faster?

Discord management: We can help with that.
