Unbelievable game for its age, it looks bonkers good for a 2005 release with some really impressive particle effects and particularly distortion effects. Shockwaves from explosions and slow motion bullet traces look phenomenal still and really smooth, clean and sharp.

Gunplay is great and holds its own against most modern releases, with literally every weapon barring the oddly anemic assault rifle feeling amazing to use. The combination of extremely intentional level design and the insane-for-its-time AI makes every fight fun and different.

If you haven’t played it yet it’s regularly sold on GOG for like a dollar and I consider it a must-play. Make sure to grab the Echo Patch and dont forget to play the Extraction Point expansion too, which is included in the GOG edition and is phenomenal - perhaps even better than the base game.

Really good friend and I used to play the mp 1v1 for hours and hours. The slide tackles and jump kicks were ridiculously op. Eventually we got a backup version running for lan parties. After about half an hour of absolutely wrecking shop, the rest of our crew decided the only way to make it fair was to go 2v10.

That didn’t help them at all. We still dominated even when we switched to melee only. It was wild the range you could connect those moves at and it was always a 1 shot even against full armor.

Such a fun game from a truly classic era of pc gaming.

As an aside, Trepang ² is a wonderful spiritual successor.

I played fear 2 instead. For obvious and understandable reasons.

If you want to have even more fun press “T” for entering a message and type “gear”. Repeat that fifty times and save your game.

This extends your slow motion meter so that you can have two minute long fights in bullet time. You will feel like in a good old John Woo Hong Kong action movie! Pure fun!

Love them all. Amazing games, each with it’s own neat peculiarities.

Played all 3 games in a row a while ago and, aside from them being terrific, it shows very well the evolution of the FPS genre across the series.

I played and finished two years ago, it still amazing game, the only downside it was the fact than the HD textures always break the game after sometime due engine limitations
