…you know you’re using a horribly outdated ROM, right? I’m actually amazed it still works.

Phones are pretty indestructible from age, except for the battery. I still have a Nexus 4 lying around and it still works after 12 years. I’d say it’s similar to how most electronic devices last an eternity, as long as they don’t get wet, hot or dropped.

Edit: And the buttons. Those die way too quickly but if you’re lucky they can last a long time too — especially if they aren’t used much after a few years.

Nice! I’m still running my S4 with LineageOS, although it’s got some bumps and bruises and doesn’t look as shiny as yours still does.

I have an S4 mini, it runs LineageOS?

The S4 was incredible, probably my longest serving phone. I didn’t want to upgrade and lose easily changeable batteries and memory expansions. I eventually gave up when I couldn’t get the batteries any more.

Yeah I really liked the s4 mini. It was a great form factor. It is a little slow these days but still works ok, I think I’ve got Lineage 17 built for it. I can still get batteries on Amazon for it? But the networks banned it so it’s just a media device now.

I know what you mean… mine’s on its third battery from years ago. It’s one of the extended size ones, even came with a new back cover for the phone because the original can’t handle the thicker battery, but it’s showing its age now. Used to go 4-5 days on a charge, now I’m lucky to get 2, and looking around there are still some places that sell them, but most of them are stupid expensive or a tad sketchy… or a little of both.

Loved my S3. Broke the screen when I leaned against a wall to help my toddler climb down and heard a crack from my trouser pocket 😨

you were either gonna get the phone breaking or the toddler not being able to climb down i think the s3 was a worthy sacrifice 🔥

As a slight adjacent - our toddler threw my wife’s s3 from our balcony onto the concrete driveway - it flew then scraped down the hill. Picked it up, not only did it still work other than some cosmetic damage there were no screen cracks or anything. Whats worse is the kiddo managed to do it a second time, and to this day that phone still works and its screen remains crack free. Don’t make em like they used to!

A Galaxy Note 4 was my first phone (hand-me-down from my dad) at 12 or so. I hated it due to the bloatware on it, but if I knew about lineageOS/custom ROMs back then it would’ve been a blast. I definitely remember my mom replacing the battery on it, due to previous use and me accidentally dropping it in water it gave out, but my mom popped a new one in like a piece of cake 🥹

I really do miss that stylus, would probably slap for DS emulation (although I have a hacked 3DS anyway 😅) and drawing…

The old galaxies were really good. I remember s3 being the first experience with a flagship device… it felt really advanced for the time. It sucks that now samsung has implemented knox security or whatever to detect bootloader unlocked devices. That’s the reason why I switched to a Oneplus phone and gave my last samsung to my dad.

I also remember touchwiz being an absolute lag fest, back in the day. Cyanogen was the OG savior !

Being able to skip tracks by holding (?) the volume button was great as my earphones didn’t have skip/volume buttons. Same goes for turning the flashlight on/off with the power button It was awesome.

I loved that phone… As soon as I put Cyanogen on it. I voided my warranty on the second week in a rage induced by the home screen taking 30 seconds to load. Samsung always has sucked at software.
