Dear patient lemmings, I am in need of your help. I’m searching for games that have some GOD DAAMN OSTs and come with a great story or/and gameplay.
Games that tick these requirements for me:
A gaming sub free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it’s price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don’t meet the system requirements, or just haven’t had the time to keep up with the latest releases.
Anything by Yasunori Mitsuda, e.g. Chrono series
Anything Yoko Shimomura touches, e.g. Kingdom Hearts, Street Fighter
Anything by Akira Yamaoka, e.g. Silent Hill, Shadows of the Damned
Most mainline Final Fantasy games have memorable songs
Persona series has amazing soundtrack, especially the Shoji Meguro era, which includes SMT and its spinoffs
NieR Automata has good ones too
Works by KONAMI Kukeiha Club, e.g. Castlevania, Policenauts
Katamari OST when you want more upbeat jazzy songs
Hotline Miami’s soundtrack
The Ys soundtrack
All the games / series listed here are pretty good
How did you feel about Celeste? It felt pretty hard for me on the first level already. Might pick back up then!
Tough game, but the learning curve isn’t too bad. Keep trying and you’ll do it 💪
Celeste is hard, but so rewarding! And the OST is stunning
As a 196 regular, it would be a sin not to finish it.
I really enjoy the OST for the Hotline Miami games. If it’s your thing it goes pretty hard.
Oh thank you for the reminder! I had put that game down somewhere in the start, because it was a bit harsh to beat the levels with an ergonomic mouse.
Ruiner
Yes.
I am looking forward to Final Form, Reikon clearly knows what they are doing.
I just looked it up, and even the trailer has good music. It reminds me of Ghost in the Shell.
Incredibile Crisis, on PS1.
Admittedly the story is a bit thin… the game play is purposefully enraging… but it gets a big ol’double check mark on the OST requirement thanks to the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.
On a totally different note and tone, Last of Us. I dig anything Gustavo Santaolalla.
Actually the story seems pretty charming tho. The graphics feels a bit too dated to me, but atleast the OST is up on YT, and damn the main menu OST is already a banger.
I don’t see this mentioned enough, but persona 5 (specifically recommend persona 5 Royal) has a really great OST. As you play the game you unlock better versions of the same tracks, including vocals. It’s actually really jazzy, and quite catchy! The wife and i will jam to the vocal tracks on road trips.
The game is also very good, with an interesting story! It’s kinda weird in a fun way! It’s like… a pokemon-esque turn based jrpg with some like real world maintenance aspects (relationships, work a job, go to school), with great music
Yeah I really loved Persona 5. It really stands out as an unique an catchy game.
Risk of Rain 2
For those who are already LoZ fans, Cadence of Hyrule will get your toes tapping for sure.
Hopefully not too many repeats from what others said.
Homeworld
Halo 2, 3, and ODST
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2
Age of Empires II
Midnight Club II and 3: Dub Edition
Katamari Damacy
The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask
Kingdom Hearts
Doom
Grim Fandango: Remastered
Shadow of the Colossus
Chrono Trigger
Star Fox 64
I’ve already played with Wolfenstein, but you got me there with Katana ZERO. Thank you for the list!
Kingdom Hearts soundtracks always slap
Can KH3 be played without any knowledge of the prior stories? Apparently, this series consists of a bunch of titles.
I would not recommend it. KH1 and 2 are absolute classics and are a pretty self-contained story if you don’t feel like committing to the whole series.
Xenoblade 1
Xenoblade X
Xenoblade 2
Xenoblade 3
How has nobody said Hotline Miami yet?

Oh hm its definitely tough by design. Don’t feel bad about reloading a lot.
Also i think controller support is good.
My choices are the following:
