Anyone’s else having the same problem? Oh, and it’s downloading updates to apps and THEN RUNNING THEM IMMEDIATELY. Like, not something I opened.
I’m on Lemmy and I get a message saying: “app has finished downloading and will open in a moment” and then whatever app just updated opens uncalled for!
WTF with this update!

It did that all by itself lol
This is the way.
Did you get your phone from a carrier by any chance? I used 4 Samsung phones (A20s, A51, Note20 Ultra and currently a A55 5G), all of them except the N20U are unlocked and no one of them ever opened apps after they downloaded
Mine never did either. It just started, new behavior.
But is your phone from a carrier? Did you buy it from like, Sprint, Verizon or something?
Att. The worst
Yeah I wouldn’t get a phone from a carrier. Apart from not releasing updates at the same time as unlocked phones, they can also install bloatware without your consent or stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a new “feature” from AT&T but I’m not from the USA.
Does the notification come from Google Play or is it just a text toast saying that?
It’s Google play. Apparently it’s a new “feature”, probably related to them discovering that people downloaded apps and didn’t open them.
OK what phone? What android version? What google play version.
Usually when asking for support provide as much info as possible. If u wanna ask vague questions go to Dr GPT
It’s a general question, I’m not looking for troubleshooting. Is anybody else experiencing problems since the last update?
Since you care: Galaxy S23 SM-S911U One Ui 6.1 Android 14 Play version 45.8.21-31
Auto update had turned itself back on, so I turned it off again. Still doesn’t explain the new behavior of opening any app my phone feels like opening.
If you don’t want to help just move on. No need to be nasty.
Oh, and default apps all reset. Piece of shit update.
I’ve done some research and it seems that a bunch of new settings and permission options have been introduced in android 14 (looks like a bunch of GrapheneOS features have been merged). I assume when they implemented this it overwrote a bunch of shit. It seems like this is the cause of changed settings. U will also be running a Samsung fork and its known they like to change ur privacy options on update so give those a check.
Google made a change to play store to auto open apps https://www.androidpolice.com/google-play-store-can-now-automatically-open-newly-installed-apps/
Sorry I didn’t need to be such a dick about it but without that info its incredibly hard to help in any way.
Which is why I avoid most of the updates. It is like giving big tech keys to your house.
Well I run GrapheneOS so its not a problem I deal with myself.
That sounds a hell of a lot like a troubleshooting question. Otherwise you’re just screaming into the void and I’m not sure what kind of interaction you were looking for by posting here. I suppose we could just say “that’s rough buddy” and “yes/no, I am/am not having that problem” and move on.
His tone could use some work, but so could yours. Those are very relevant pieces of information to ask for when trying to figure out what’s wrong with your phone.
My (s24) last update cause my phone to hang up immediately when placing outbound phone calls to any number until I resbooted it. That’s all.
