The world of android is bigger than the plateful of shit Google gives you. You can refuse the plate and choose your own, sans shit.

Has anyone tried to see if Gemini works with a wake word? What about with Bluetooth headset?

It works if you say Ok Google. But, if you need a custom keyword. You would need to use an automation app like Tasker, Automate, Macrodroid and invoke Gemini.

As for bluetooth I don’t have an always on bluetooth speaker so cannot comment on that.

I testdrove the S24 Ultra with Galaxy buds to try to switch from an iPhone and the biggest complaint I had is that “okay Google” from the earbuds basically never worked. The S25U has that walkie talkie button, but I only use my assistant via voice when my hands are full… it just kills it for me entirely.

Oh good. Last time I checked, this thing can’t even handle “play music” and “navigate home” when I’m driving.

And are they gonna have Gemini upgraded to have google assistants basic functions like calling and sending messages to contacts, setting reminders and timers, and actually give a response to a question that isn’t “it’s more complicated than it seems, here’s a 5000 word essay on your extremely simple question”?

So far they haven’t gotten a single toe, let alone a step, into the right direction.

I’m on a pixel and last time I did these commands it just handed it off to assistant.

Interesting, my Reno z somehow had assistant fully removed and replaced by Gemini, so that’s probably why I can’t do the basics.

It needs to improve a lot, I don’t think 2025 is a good fit for this change.
