I briefly sidelined any progress on Alan Wake 2 to hopefully finish up Halo 3 Legendary tonight.it did not in fact happen as the IWHBYD skull ended up taking far longer than i thought. It also made me wonder how someone discovered the thing because the puzzle is elaborate. We ended up drawing it out so long as we didn’t realize we needed to walk all the way to the elevator and then do it. We thought we could do it right after the cut scene. Me and my friend also decided instead of Halo 4 -> Halo Reach we’d do Halo Reach -> Halo 4 so we can finish up the Covenant story line first.
The screenshot up there i took while on my way to grab the hidden music cue in the same level. I’m surprised they just let you fly past the border of the world where you can see it drop off. I really wasn’t expecting it.
Another funny little detail i noticed was this solid image in the cut scene. it got a laugh out of me as i genuinely wasn’t expecting it.
overall, there wasn’t much to say about today though. We played through levels 7 & 8, and hopefully will finish it tomorrow. I want to do a tradition i started with my first run through the last level and carry the skull on that one as far as i possibly can. We’ll see how that goes though.
I did want to leave this screenshot of Arbiter in a hornet though, because he looks so uncomfortable in it. I can’t imagine that’s good for his spine (if he has one)

As for the painted backdrops in some cutscenes, the choice over a fully modeled environment makes sense in the context of the original release, the game ran at around 720p and you could barely tell. There’s another couple of these skyboxes later (start and end of the final level, “Halo”). I personally miss that in games today, I like painted art

It definitely looks cool. It was a bit jarring the first time though. Playing at 4k probably made it stand out a bit more though
