I guess „open world“ action RPGs a la Dark Souls, extra points for anime style and if it‘s not super dark and depressing to play. Ordered Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and I’m looking forward to that.

I keep returning to MSFS 2020 on a daily basis. Trying to force myself to like KSP2, after many hours in the original. Can easily lose myself in RDR2 or GTA5. Am eagerly awaiting City Skylines 2.
Roguelikes/lites (my latest addiction is Gunfire Reborn)
Survival/crafting games (think Subnautica, Dont Starve)
Soulslikes (I’m a filthy INT main)
Terraria, for some reason can’t shake off the addiction
Puzzle games, occasionally (especially first person puzzles like Portal, Turing Test, Talos Principle)
My guilty pleasure is coming back to Overwatch every once in a while, if only to remind myself why I left the last time
these are great recs, what is INT?
Intelligence stat, it’s used for sorcery in Souls games
Strategy and empire building! Total war is by far my favorite series.
Mount and blade/Bannerlord is up there too.
I mostly stick to simulators and farming type games. The cozy stuff. Stardew Valley, Littlewood, Starhaven, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, Cozy Grove, etc. Otherwise, things like the Sims series, or Animal Crossing. I like a lot of indie titles and digital board games as well - Garden Galaxy, Wingspan, Unpacking, Bugsnax
Competitive shooters, cs and valo mostly. I’ll automatically try to find the most optimal playstyle in any game i play, which ends up in me losing interest when it gets too easy. In PvP comp games the opponents are doing the same so it doesn’t feel like I’m cheesing my way trough. Anything with a decent ranking system is my jam, because owning noobs is fun for a while but a win feels way more rewarding when it was a hard fought back and forth.
I mostly play JRPGs and SRPGs. Preferably more on the linear side as I can only enojoy at most 1-2 open world games a year before they get tedious.
Inbetween those, I occasionally play games from all sorts of genres. Except for FPS and multiplayer stuff.
I play only games that are like me… Old.
Games like Enter the gungeon, Slay the spire, Space station 13, Dwarf fortress, Deus ex, System shock, Serious sam and Talos principle.
Try Luck be a landlord. We have eerily the same taste in games and Luck be a landlord has been my favorite game of the last few years. There’s a demo if you wanna try before you buy
thanks for the recomendation
I really like to play many various genres, it depends on my mood
Most recently I played:
tears of the kingdom. 100% the game and really looking forward to some dlc
Grim Fandango. A fantastic point & click game that sat in my backlog for years and finally played it and finished it.
been going hard on Diablo 4, can’t wait for season 1
some Fortnite but only if friends ask me to play with them
command & conquer remastered
Recently got a steam deck and playing games like:
cult of the lamb
cuphead. Damn, this game is hard.
pinball fx3
I like a lot of stuff but I’ll say something that rarely gets brought up. I like sports games. I love most sports in general and I love when I can really get in to the feeling of role playing in a franchise mode or be a pro mode. I also love a crazy sports game (like mutant league football/hockey, super mega baseball, rocket league, nba Jam) especially when they treat it seriously and have franchise mode or things like that. I even love a game like Unreal Tournament 2004 (and others in the series, but that’s my favorite) that’s a shooter but is treated like a sport in game with team management and stuff.
There are a lot of lazy sports games and I play those too but there are some great ones too
I’ve been really into games with a good crafting system where you have to try to survive. Don’t Starve and Subnautica are the ones that have taken most of my time. I also like colony management games, like RimWorld and Oxygen Not Included
The other recommendations you got are good, but add a slightly different style check out This War Of Mine. Disclaimer : it’s. Heavy topic game. You survive as a civilian in an ongoing warzone (in short). You craft you home base during the day, and either scavenge for meager supplies at night (suffering exhaustion) or sleep at night. It’s a fairly brutal game, emotional, but some people are into that stuff… A friend, yeah! Not me.
You have my taste in games dialed in. I LOVED This War Of Mine, and I loved the expansion that added children. I liked most of the characters, but for whatever reason Marko was always my favorite, and I could not stand Bruno. Honestly, I think I’m gonna go boot that up again and get ruined emotionally by the supermarket event again.
Have you played factorio?
I have not! My impression is that it’s very heavily focused on automating things, but is there also a survival component, or is it focused on tweaking supply lines and stuff?
It’s automation focused. There is survival, but in the sense of like repelling a wave of aliens coming to attack you, usually via automation.
It’s still a pretty addicting game as you work out how to do things and laying out plans for how certain processes will look. I’d still recommend checking it out regardless.
It is different as other poster mentioned. But it hits the same spot in the brain for me. It’s worth at least checking out
You might like Stationeers
I had never heard of this game before, but I bought it on your recommendation. Wish me luck!
Thats awesome! I highly suggest visiting their discord. You’ll find lots of conversation and if you have questions it’s the best place to be
RimWorld is al all time classic for me. When I boot it up nowadays it’s with a gargantuan modlist, over 500+ by now, and I love that the game’s core systems are good enough to support all these mods.
Buggy, early access, survival crafting games.

Got some interesting ones to share?
Historically I played a lot of Ark, Conan Exiles, Raft, Stranded Deep, 7 Days to Die, Green Hell, Astroneer, Scrap Mechanic, The Forest, Osiris New Dawn and all the usual suspects.
Recently I have tried a few like Valheim, Vulcanoids, Survive the Night, Sons of the Forest, Deadpoly, No One Survived and Grounded.
Thanks for the list! I’ve played them all except for Vulcsnoids which is on my wish list.
Ive got my eye on Nightingale at the moment. Have you seen any others on the horizon?
I recently backed Solar Punk on Kickstarter which looks like it has potential
Nice. Wishlisted.
I’m also currently pls in Dinkum, which is Australian Animal Crossing! Quite addicting.
I like easy games. the more relaxed, the better.
Currently I’m playing Spiderman Remastered and boy, i feel i’m 17 again playing Spiderman 2 on the PS2.
Co-op PVE games are my bread and butter, Warframe or Division 2.
I like games where I can be overpowered. Like Cyberpunk 2077.
And also laid back games like Stardew Valley.
Any interest in Civ? It’s my relaxed game. So easy to pickup and put down (well… After 1 more turn…) and travels well.
I love civ, but I lack the strategic mind to truly enjoy it. Same goes for crusader kings 3, it’s a game I love watching and listening my friends talking about, but it’s nothing I could play comfortably.
I enjoy dwarf fortress, though. Rimworld as well but not as much.
