They bought it from totalwargaming. Impulse I think it was called. It was actually the most promising steam alternative at the time, and I had started to prefer to use it because it was fast, clean, functional and they had some DRM free options.
Then GameStop bought it, and turned it into a steaming shit pile in less than a year.
Was a long time ago though. Very early 2000s I would guess.
