I miss when I could buy an FPS and just have it. Perhaps people have been trained to expect a game like this to shut down quickly, which might lead to a vicious cycle where they stop playing it and paying into it, expecting their money to disappear and that they could have spent that time getting better at a game that’s going to last.
I know this is an old geezer comment but I miss FPS games where you could configure and host your own server. To this day I can still boot and find Unreal Tournament (1999) servers with active lobbies.
Does Halo Infinite let players do this now? Or are you “only” able to run your own game/lobby on a dedicated cloud server?
I wish we could go back to this. It would certainly increase the longevity of some games.
