I read the article, and still have no clue what “content abandonment losses” are. Did they basically predict FFVII part 2 to sell as well as part 1, and then it didn’t?
Seems weird to call your forecasting error a “loss” if that’s the case.
Considering the glowing reviews on part 2, I’m surprised there’s any sort of “loss” here.
Yeah, I was trying to reconcile that too, which is why I asked. Seem like it was other projects that were fully canceled, not the biggest of the big.
There might be some Hollywood accounting here.
Too busy advertising Foamstars 😔😔😔
I think they cancelled a bunch of projects in development, and they are writing off the cost.
Oh, okay, so it was they who abandoned the content, not the users. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks!
This is (very likely) it. Made up scenario because I don’t know what’s in their pipeline, but this would be like seeing FF7 Remake not meeting expectations while Palworld thrives, and deciding to can the FF8 reboot they’d already floated millions into and instead redirecting their entire workforce to adding guns to the their Minecraft knockoff Dragon Quest Builders.
