Who would’ve thought that making your product more readily available would increase sales? That’s so much more counterintuitive than “double down on NFTs and release schedules that require knowledge of calculus to figure out.”

Screw it, go make the actual Starship Troopers game not suck. That thing is in dire need of help.

While 177 countries sounds like a lot, it’s not where the majority of players are. PSN operates in the top 15 countries by GDP and the top 4 by population.

Of course there’s still the question of why they work in so few countries when literally none of their competitors (that I know of) have those limitations.

Most anticheats don’t have the track record of repeated data breaches that Sony does.

Same boat here. I had no problems making a PSN account because I like the idea of crossplay, but if they were planning to add this requirement back in later they needed to be much more clear about it. Like “gigantic popup every time you load the game if you don’t have a PSN account” clear, especially with PSN not being available in certain countries.

There’s also the larger question of why this is required. Clearly the game works just fine without it. Whatever the reason is, it’s not for the benefit of the players.

I’m actually really surprised that Valve is loosening up on this one. They usually play hardball when it comes to refunding a game past the 2 hour mark.

They make exceptions when a game has major issues or implements some significant change that dramatically alters the availability of the product. No Man’s Sky, Starfield, and Cyberpunk 2077 all could be refunded outside the 2 hour window - at least for some people. And of course everyone who bought The Day Before was refunded entirely.

I expect they’ll be allowing refunds for anyone in a country where PSN does not operate at a minimum. It’s really hard to argue that the game is still playable when the required service is not available in your home country.

I’m not predicting a Fallout-tier adaptation here, but as long as I get a few giggles then go on Comedy Central.

They have free coffee and croissants in the mornings and their chairs are decadently plush.

Also no need to buy a Steam Deck version of that game you bought on Steam ten years ago, it’s already there and probably runs great.

Android could have had this same advantage too, but Google’s now pushing this whole framework version check thing.

I said this elsewhere, but without knowing what specific integrated graphics card you’re using (e.g. Intel HD 4000 series) it’s hard to give specific recommendations. Generally though there’s a range of things that will work:

  • Any game released 7±ish years before the laptop was manufactured.

  • Most 2D games released 4±ish years before the laptop was manufactured.

  • Anything that has an Android/iOS version.

  • Emulated games for anything from 2 console generations ago or more (e.g. OG Xbox, Playstation 2). Also the PC releases of those games (e.g. Knights of the Old Republic)

Yeah, we’d need to know the gpu or even vague specs on the laptop to give a good answer.

Even assuming that OP is talking about Intel Integrated Graphics that’s still a huge range depending on which series it is.

Best Buy did some mind-blowing sales late last year or early this year. You could pick up a bunch of 4K Blurays for $5 - $10. Lots of good stuff, too.

Damn, I had no idea. I should keep an eye out if they do another. I don’t think we even have a BluRay player in the house other than in my computer, and it’d be nice to have the option.

Yeah, this seems like the kind of thing they’d try to push on Business/Pro+ users, where management is willing to fork out absurd amounts of money monthly as long as the per-seat price can be vaguely justified. Doing this for home users would just be dumb. Plenty of people would see the monthly subscription and go “eh I don’t need a computer, I can just use my phone.”

I had a similar “it’s great I don’t get what people are talking about” experience, only I was running it on lesser hardware than yours: 4GB GTX 970, 12-core i7-5820k, 32GB ram. I ran into a handful of bugs that were funny but not really disruptive (e.g. some dude’s corpse floating behind a car as I was on the highway) and otherwise had a blast.

Nonetheless, it didn’t really feel finished, y’know? That part wore on me, and I think is what undermined my enjoyment the most. It really was released too early.

99% of it was them trying to make the new fee structure retroactively apply to already-released products, and the damage there has already been done. The fact that they think they can change the negotiated fee structure after the fact makes Unity a huge liability to use now. No one can ever be sure they won’t suddenly pull a “give us more money or stop selling your game” move sometime down the line.

Not always true; some games work really well on handheld/portable devices and the Switch is really good for that. The Binding of Isaac springs to mind.

Any of the Sierra “X Quest” games. Space Quest, Police Quest… so many soft locks. I remember Police Quest had a soft lock that would trigger on the first day but wouldn’t become apparent until day 3 or 4.

Agreed. Cutesy emotes are great when you aren’t trying to concentrate on multiple other things at the same time. When I’m mid-game the only chat I read needs to be static and non-moving.

Same on the dogtags. Never got into 10six; I was more of an FPS gamer at the time. Lots of Duke Nukem 3D. Lots of shareware Quake.

The last good turn-based game I played was… oh wait, D:OS2. Huh.

Chrome: We’re going to make adblocking on mobile even harder.

Firefox: We’re gonna make adblocking on mobile as easy as its ever been.

Gee, wonder which one I’m gonna be using after this.
