2-3 years is a very fast turnaround time these days and that’s where From is at. Look at Horizon by comparison. It was 5 years between the Horizon games despite using the same engine and some of the same assets.
Horizon is a bigger game with more cinematics and voice acting, so that’s part of it. But From is definitely faster at pushing out AAA games than most studios.
I don’t know, I think the BG branding on top of it did help with the hype because of BG2’s reputation and existing fanbase. The D&D aspect is definitely a bigger deal though.
Ultimately I think it sold well because it’s a really good game that was easy to turn into fun memes and clips. Plus early access meant there were a ton of people who already played it which helped the hype even more.
The combat isn’t any better the further back you go, it’s actually worse. Combat’s never been a strength of this series.
Daggerfall is a very different game from Skyrim. It’s much more about hardcore RP, like you can actually fail the main plot if you don’t complete the first quest within a few weeks of in-game time.
For real, Steam literally took off because they made HL2 exclusive to it. It doesn’t matter that it’s a first party game, the effect and intent was identical. They could’ve made it generally available but chose not to. They forced people to use their proprietary product to install a game.
It’s crazy how many people shill for valve on Reddit and lemmy when they’ve already done most of the shit Epic gets accused of.
I absolutely do not want this. I play TLOU for the immersion and the story. As soon as you add multiplayer you can throw immersion out the window, and I just don’t see how they can make a multiplayer game story-focused.
I’m scared they’ll go the gta route and abandon the single player for a long time so they can focus on mtx bullshit. Whatever they’re doing is almost certainly taking time away from TLOU 3
That assumes that the money from targeted/curated ads is less than the money from paid advertising fees + follow up sales. That may not actually be true. Generic ads are notoriously bad at converting views to clicks to sales. What steam is doing is basically targeted advertising which boosts their sales, where they make a guaranteed 30% return at a rate that’s probably much higher than the conversion rate for paid advertising.
Other sales platforms do the same thing. It’s not really any different from all the recommendation sections on Amazon. The idea that they’re doing it just to be nice is pretty ridiculous. Valve is still out to make money at the end of the day.
Too many devs think they’re above unionizing. It’s going to be very difficult to pull off. They won’t be interested until it’s too late.
Bottom line is that tech is chock full of greedy fucking people who only care about what they’re getting paid this year.
I don’t think the gaming industry could lead on this issue though. It’s tech companies like FAANG that really lead the market and that’s where people refuse to organize.
It’s a huge dlc from the looks of it though, and they also released Armored Core during that time.
