I’ve been using Pocket Casts for years. It’s pretty solid. Honestly can’t remember if I paid for it or not, but I don’t see ads and I don’t have the recurring membership option.

People also need to stop calling 40fps unplayable. They expect their 3050 to run every game at 120fps on Ultra.

Ya it seems to load much faster on a PC. 1-3 seconds on a PCIE 4X4 drive.

I agree that 76 sucked. SF is pretty great though.

I’m considering moving my PC to the living room for this exact reason.

It’s perfectly optimized. I’m getting a rock solid 30fps. /s

Seriously though, I think it’s fine. Especially indoors and in space, it performs well and looks incredible. New Atlantis is kinda ugly and janky though.

Pretty sure HD ready is 540p that can take a 720p signal.

720p is HD and 1080p is Full HD. 4K is Ultra HD.

I’m not insulting the devs who did similar with much less. I’m insulting the devs who can’t do similar with the same hardware.

In my defense, I preordered it after it came out.

Even on systems with significant memory, a slow drive will create lag in RC. Moreover, RC is doing this while also having very high graphical fidelity overall, including ray tracing, which is quite memory intensive. It’s not possible without Direct storage and reasonably fast SSDs.

Look at Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. They have completely seamless transitions between entire dimensions. They use Direct Storage, which is a Microsoft API. It’s not a good look when a Sony studio is able to achieve seamless transitions on a Windows game but a Microsoft game can’t.

To me Mass Effect 1-3 felt more cohesive in space, because it was always clear how much you could do, whereas in SF it looks exactly like you’re in NMS, but you can’t do NMS things.

It’s not game breaking or ruining though. Just know going in that it isn’t No Mans Sky.

They specifically said there were going to be loading screens and no user driven landings. I agree with not preordering games, but I also think you need to actually look at what the dev is saying before you set your expectations.

It’s pretty good. I’m not super into fantasy so I think I prefer the story so far over TES. I do like a sideish plot I’m in to join a faction and potentially betray another faction.

I am running on a 3080 with no real hiccups. I get 40-80fps. It’s higher indoors and on the blower side in cities. This is on Ultra with resolution scaling at 77% at 4K, which is slightly above the Ultra preset.

There are loading screens when you take off and land or enter certain areas. They’re annoying, but usually just 1-2 seconds. I do wish they optimized this more.

Combat is decent. It’s not the best shooter in history but it generally works okay. Space combat is again just okay. Kind of simplistic relative to something like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen. Actually, after admittedly only a couple space battles, I actually think even No Mans Sky has better space combat. Don’t take this as gospel though.

I feel the opposite. Everyone wants to be the first to dunk on a popular game. That gets you more clicks than just another 9/10.

In the Digital Foundry console review, the graphics looked awful. The game doesn’t seem especially compelling, and it is expensive as hell.

I’ve had a Fold 3 and now a Fold 4. The 4s have much better and more efficient chips compared to the 3, and the 5s are better still. I think the battery story has improved quite a bit compared to the phone you have. You should consider upgrading to a 5 if you’re in the US btw. With trade in it is almost free.

As a rule, kids are fucking stupid. A 38 year old who cares about chat bubbles you can pretty safely dump into a ditch. A 9 year old can still be redeemed. Also, kids need an opportunity to make mistakes and learn for themselves who they want to spend time with.

Apple tracks iPhone users. Apple is an advertising company. Apple just tries to block other advertising companies from tracking you on their platform, because they want more money.

Which is ironic since Sony spent two decades trying to make Memory Sticks, UMDs, and MiniDiscs happen. I think they’ve finally learned their lesson on proprietary storage.

PS5 will also support up to 8TB of additional storage. Series X maxes out at 2TB.

Not if you have a PS5. I just added a $99 2TB Samsung 980 Pro to mine. Microsoft really shafted Xbox owners with their Seagate partnershit.

Glad I didn’t buy it during the summer sale. Now I can hopefully get it for less without paying the Denuvo tax.

Yup, Desert Combat was one of my favorite games of all time. The devs went on to work on Battlefield 2 directly I believe.

Except the ad market is down. An ad supported user is going to generate $2-3 in revenue over the lifetime of the app at most. The pro version price should be in line with that. Or at least not vastly more.

I don’t mind paying for a good appz even $20, but I just don’t know if I will get that much use out of it. If another app comes around and I like it better, that’s it.

Sync is more polished, but Infinity has a much better layout on the Galaxy Fold. I’m using Infinity for now, but hoping it improves quickly.

Neither is as good as Reddit Is Fun for foldables, unfortunately. That had a perfect interface IMO. Much better than Apollo too.

One thing that really bothers me on Infinity is that I see no way to show the parent of a comment that I am looking at. It only times you the option to show all other comments, but not the parent specifically.

I just want the OGs back. When BF was fun because the physics was simple and you could do crazy shit.

Samsung phones are the worst android phones you can buy, except for all the others.

As frustrating as Samsung is, I always find myself going back to them. Displays, build quality, cameras, performance, storage capacity, speakers, software features (Dex!), they’re just ahead of the curve across the board.

The only legitimate advantage of Chinese phones is the super fast charging, but I’m in the better safe than sorry camp on that one.

I’ve had the Fold 3 and now Fold 4, and I really don’t see myself getting anything other than a Fold 6 down the line, unless something major changes.

I played Hogwarts Legacy on my Steam Deck at 4k upscaled from like 480p or something. I think it was upscaled to 1080p with FSR 2.0 then again to 4k with FSR 1.0. It was like watching a slideshow of impressionist paintings set in the English countryside.

I “beat” the game in 2012, but it was an ungodly number of hours. Is it worth playing through again? New stuff? New mechanics? A small world might go faster?

Folding phones.

I was so skeptical at first, and even now it seems most people still are. It’s a complete game changer though. There’s almost nothing I can’t do on my phone anymore, due to the multitasking and the larger screen. I can comfortably use desktop websites when necessary for banking etc. I have watched many dozens of movies and tv shows on it. It’s just nicer for reading and browsing the web, and makes your phone feel so much more powerful to have the tablet form factor. I’ve actually been travelling for over a month with no laptop, just my Fold and a Steam deck.

I’m also appreciating having what is essentially a 5G-connected tablet where in the past I’ve always dismissed the LTE-connected ipads as a gimmick. It’s hard to justify paying extra for the device and then a monthly fee, but now that I have it I can definitely see the appeal of a tablet that just works anywhere you go. Except since it folds you can put it in your pocket too.
